Mitten Gourmet has announced a recall of approximately 1,137 pounds of ready-to-eat pork rinds, as they were produced without the benefit of federal inspection.
The recall was published to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) on May 10.
It applies to pork rind products of various flavors produced on various dates from Sept. 9, 2021, through May 5, 2023. The full range of recalled pork rind products can be seen here.
The problem was discovered during routine FSIS surveillance activities when the ready-to-eat pork rind products were observed for sale without the USDA mark of inspection, the recall states. FSIS determined the producer is not an FSIS-inspected facility.
There have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions due to consumption of these products so far, the recall states. The company is not facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes lead to class action lawsuits.
Do not consume the products
The recalled items were shipped to retail locations nationwide.
FSIS is concerned that some product may be in consumers’ pantries. “Consumers who have purchased these products are urged not to consume them,” the FSIS said.
“These products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase.”
Last year, Waitrose recalled a range of products, including basil pesto, pork crackling and pork scratchings, due to fears of salmonella contamination.
