Conagra Brands issued a recall of about 2,717 pounds of frozen Marie Callender’s beef shepherd’s pie products, as they may be contaminated with plastic.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) website published the recall June 16. It applies to “MC Beef Shepherd’s Pie” products packaged in 4.31-pound cases with lot code 5006306020, best-by date of Feb. 24, 2024, and case code 2113100032.

The cases each contain six 11.5-ounce carton packages of Marie Callender’s beef shepherd’s pie, with time stamps ranging between 17:45 and 17:56.

According to the recall, the frozen beef shepherd’s pie products may be contaminated with clear, flexible plastic.

Conagra discovered the problem when it received consumer complaints reporting pieces of plastic in the product and notified FSIS of the situation, the company says.

There have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions due to consumption of the products so far, according to the Marie Callender’s shepherd’s pie recall. The company is not facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes lead to class action lawsuits.

Throw away Marie Callender’s shepherd’s pies or return to place of purchase, recall advises

Conagra shipped the Marie Callender’s shepherd’s pies to retail distribution centers in California, Colorado, Oregon and Utah, which further distributed them nationwide, the recall states.

FSIS says it is concerned some recalled pies may be in consumers’ freezers.

“Consumers who have purchased these products are urged not to consume them. These products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase,” the Marie Callender’s shepherd’s pie recall states.

Other companies have recalled products in the past over concerns they might be contaminated with plastic or other materials.

Last year, Bob Evans Farms Foods recalled about 7,560 pounds of Italian pork sausage products, as they may have been contaminated with thin, blue rubber.
