UPDATE:
- The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has updated the risk level of the recall of various MadeGood granola bars that were found to potentially contain a pieces of metal.
- Riverside Natural Foods Inc. issued a voluntary recall of 2,408,883 cases of MadeGood granola bars on Dec. 9, 2024.
- According to a February update of the FDA, the recall is now classified as Class II, which indicates a “situation in which use of or exposure to a violative product may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences or where the probability of serious adverse health consequences is remote.,” the FDA said.
- The affected Specific flavors of granola bars included in the recall are: products included Chocolate Chip Granola Bars, Mixed Berry Granola Bars, Strawberry Granola Bars, Cookies & Crème Granola Bars, Chocolate Banana Granola Bars, Chocolate Drizzled Birthday Cake Granola Bars, Chocolate Drizzled Cookie Crumble Granola Bars, and Chocolate Drizzled Vanilla Granola Bars.

Riverside Natural Foods Inc. is recalling some of its popular MadeGood granola bars as they may contain pieces of metal.
The recall was published to the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) website on Dec. 9.
It applies to certain granola bars produced between Jan. and Nov. 2024, and distributed throughout the United States, Canada and other international markets.
Specific flavors of granola bars included in the recall are: Chocolate Chip Granola Bars, Mixed Berry Granola Bars, Strawberry Granola Bars, Cookies & Crème Granola Bars, Chocolate Banana Granola Bars, Chocolate Drizzled Birthday Cake Granola Bars, Chocolate Drizzled Cookie Crumble Granola Bars, and Chocolate Drizzled Vanilla Granola Bars.
Company says it has identified the source of the issue in the manufacturing process
According to the recall, the granola bars are being recalled due to the potential presence of a piece of metal in the product.
“The health and safety of our consumers is our highest priority,” the company said. “This recall is being initiated as a precautionary measure; no injuries have been reported.”

Riverside says it has conducted an extensive investigation where the recalled products were manufactured, and has identified the source of the issue in the manufacturing process. The company did not disclose the source of the issue in the recall, but said it had been fixed.
Consumers who purchased the recalled granola bars are asked to check them against the list on the MadeGood website and return the recalled product to the store where they bought it for a full refund.
Meanwhile, an Illinois federal judge recently ruled the Quaker Oats Co. does not need to face a class action lawsuit alleging it misrepresents its Simply Granola products as containing only simple and healthy ingredients.
