Supreme Service Solutions LLC has issued a recall for a range of guacamoles, salsa and pre-cut vegetable products sold at Kroger grocery stores in several states, as the products may be contaminated with Listeria Monocytogenes.
The recall was published to the U.S. Food & Drug Administration website on July 26. It applies to 19 different products with ingredients purchased from Weirs Farm Inc., including guacamoles, pico de gallos, cut peppers, cilantro and jalapeño.
Listeria monocytogenes can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems, the recall states.
“Although healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women,” the recall notice said.
Discard affected products, recall notice says
The recalled products were distributed in Kroger retail stores in Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Missouri, and Ohio.
The potential contamination was first discovered by the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development through routine sampling.
There have been no illnesses or consumer complaints reported so far, the recall states.
“Consumers should not consume and discard the product,” the recall says. “The product involved is past its shelf life and should already be out of distribution, but if consumers have any product they question, do not consume it, but rather discard it.”
Meanwhile, Wiers Farm has recalled dozens of fruit and vegetable products sold in Walmarts, Krogers and other supermarkets in 13 states, as the products may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.
