Honda has announced a recall of more than 124,000 vehicles, including Civics, Passports and Pilots, as the affected vehicles can suffer from loss of brake function, resulting in a potential crash.

The U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) published the recall June 29.ย

It applies to certain 2020-2021 Civic, 2020-2023 Ridgeline, 2021-2023 Passport, 2021-2022 Pilot and 2020 Acura MDX vehicles. A total of 124,077 cars are potentially affected.

According to the recall, the issue lies in a loose fastener that connects the brake booster and the brake master cylinder. This could cause the brake master cylinder to separate from the booster assembly, possibly causing loss of brake function and risk of a crash.ย

If the brake master cylinder separates from the booster assembly, it is unlikely drivers will have any advance warning, the recall says.ย

Automaker offers free repair, Honda brake recall notice says

As of June 22, 2023, Honda had received two warranty claims related to the issue since September 2022, and no reports of crashes, injuries or deaths related to the issue, the recall notice says.

The automaker is not facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes lead to class action lawsuits.

Dealers will inspect and repair the brake booster assembly as necessary, free of charge, the Honda recall states. The company is expected to mail owner notification letters Aug. 7, 2023.

Meanwhile, Honda also recently recalled more than 1.1 million Odyssey, Pilot and Passport vehicles due to an issue with the rearview camera display.

I took my Honda 2020 passport to dealer for the recalls said fixed but all the warning lights are still on. Brakes collision warning light cruise control etc they said all recalls were fixed but canโ€™t look into anything else since warranty is up 3 years this February eventhough I only have 15k miles and deny that this is part of recall
    What should I do.

  2. Jodi Juliano says:

My honda has brake warning and lane assist warning called dealer for recall and tried to schedule date. Response is we will call you back. When asking time frame just for a call back response As soon as possible. Even after explaining brake warning on my vehicle. Will not give a window for callback.

My Honda was making really strange braking noises and my case shut down and my case was making really loud noises from the braking system and the car was slowing down all the time and metal noise was rubbing up against something like a plate underneath the car and stopped and then I took the car to the dealership and their was a big chunk out of the rotter on one side and the said it was because of brake ware and that clearly wasnโ€™t the case.

I have a 2019 Honda Pilot, and the brake system light just turned on, but it is not listed as a recall.

    1. MPM says:

Your brake light on is simply an indication of low fluid level. Most likely your pads have worn down causing the fluid level to drop. If you have an issue with the braking system then typically you will be alerted via an ABS light not the standard brake warning.
