Halo tumbler recall overview:

  • Who: Halo has recalled about 60,000 tumblers sold at Wawa.
  • Why: The tumblers contain a metal straw that can cut consumers’ mouths.
  • Where: The Halo recall is active in the United States.

Halo has recalled tens of thousands of tumblers sold at Wawa that contain a metal straw that can cut consumers’ mouths.

The recall was published to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission website on Oct. 31. It applies to 60,000 24-ounce reusable tumblers with a metal straw and “Wawa” imprinted on them.

According to the Halo recall, the metal straw inside the tumbler can cut the mouth or fingers of anyone using it, posing a laceration hazard.

So far, Halo has received four reports of incidents resulting in four laceration injuries to the hand and mouth, the tumbler recall states.

Consumers should immediately stop using the metal straw that comes with the tumbler and contact Halo for instructions on how to receive a free replacement silicone straw, after returning the metal straw, the recall states. If consumers don’t want to keep the tumbler, they can return it with the metal straw and receive a refund in the form of a $15 gift card, it adds.

The original tumbler and metal straw must be returned to Halo to receive the refund. Proof of purchase is not required to receive a replacement or refund. Halo said it will provide a pre-paid label for shipping the recalled units and that consumers should not return the items to Wawa stores.

The recalled tumblers were sold at Wawa stores in Alabama, Washington D.C., Delaware, Florida, North Carolina, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Virginia and Maryland during August for about $13.

Meanwhile, Pacific Market International is facing two class actions filed in February, after the company admitted to using lead in Stanley cups’ vacuum seal.
