General Mills flour recall overview:

  • Who: General Mills has issued a recall of certain bags of flour.
  • Why: The products may contain salmonella.
  • Where: The General Mills gold medal flour recall is active in the United States.

General Mills has issued a recall of certain bags of flour as the products may contain salmonella.

The recall was published on the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) website April 28. It applies to General Mills 2-, 5- and 10-pound bags of Gold Medal unbleached and bleached all-purpose flour with “better if used by” dates of March 27, 2024, and March 28, 2024.

The recall is being issued for the potential presence of salmonella infantis, which was discovered during sampling of the 5-pound bag product, the company said.

The recall affects two date codes of Gold Medal Unbleached All Purpose Flour in the 5- and 10-pound bags and two date codes of Gold Medal Bleached All Purpose Flour in the 2- and 5-pound bags, which can be seen on the recall notice

The notice does not state whether there have been any illnesses relating to the potential contamination.

The company is not facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes lead to class action lawsuits.

Consumers should dispose of the flour

Consumers who may have the recalled flour are asked to check their pantries and dispose of the product.

“Consumers should refrain from consuming any raw products made with flour,” the recall states. “Salmonella Infantisis killed by heat through baking, frying, sautéing or boiling products made with flour. All surfaces, hands and utensils should be properly cleaned after contact with flour or dough.”

Consumers who have had to discard the products covered by the recall may contact General Mills consumer relations at 1-800-230-8103.

Last year, Smucker’s agreed to a $1.54 million class action settlement to resolve claims that its Ardent Mills flour products were contaminated with E. coli.
