Fisher-Price recalled more than 2 million Snuga infant swings due to a suffocation hazard and after five infant death reports.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission published the Fisher-Price recall Oct. 10. It applies to all models of Fisher-Price Snuga swings.

According to the recall, from 2012-2022, consumers reported five deaths involving infants ages 1 to 3 months old when parents used the Snuga product for sleep.

The Fisher-Price recall says parents and guardians should never use the swing for sleep or add bedding materials to it.

“If the product is used for sleep or bedding material is added, the headrest and body support insert on the seat pad can increase the risk of suffocation,” it says.

Fisher-Price sold about 2.1 million of the swings in the United States, about 99,000 swings in Canada and about 500 swings in Mexico.

Consumers should remove headrest, body support insert immediately, recall says

Consumers should immediately remove both the headrest (by cutting the tether) and the body support insert from the seat pad before continuing to use the swing for awake-time activities, the Fisher-Price infant swings recall says.

Parents should never leave children in the swing unsupervised, it adds.

Fisher-Price sold the Snuga swings at Amazon, Toys R Us, Walmart/Sam’s Club and Target nationwide from October 2010-January 2024 for about $160.

Fisher-Price will provide a $25 refund to consumers who remove and destroy the headrest and body support insert, the recall notice says. Instructions can be found here.

Last month, Fisher-Price issued a recall for the dumbbell toy included in its popular Baby Biceps Gift Set due a choking hazard.
