Cookie dough salmonella recall overview: 

  • Who: A recall initiated by Rise Baking Company in May now includes more than 29,000 cases of cookie dough products and has been upgraded to a Class II recall by the FDA. 
  • Why: The cookie dough recall was initiated over concerns of a potential salmonella contamination. 
  • Where: The recalled cookie dough products were distributed to 21 U.S. states.

More than 29,000 cases of cookie dough are part of an ongoing recall initiated over concerns of a potential salmonella contamination. 

The cookie dough recall involves certain Costco Chocolate Chunk Frozen Cookie Dough, Member’s Mark Chocolate Chunk, Panera Chocolate Chipper Cookie, Rise Baking Jumbo Chocolate Chunk, Mini Chocolate Chip Cookie, Panera Oatmeal Raisin with Berries Cookie, Panera Kitchen Sink Cookie and Rise Baking Company Cowboy Cookie cookie doughs. 

Rise Baking Company, which does business as South Coast Baking, originally initiated the recall on May 2. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has since updated the recall to a Class II recall, reports ConsumerAffairs. 

Recalled cookie dough products distributed to 21 states across U.S.

The recalled cookie dough cases were distributed to 21 total U.S. states, including California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New York, New Jersey, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Texas and Wisconsin.

The FDA is advising consumers not to eat any of the recalled cookie dough products and to either safely discard or return them to their original place of purchase, reports ConsumerAffairs. 

In a previous recall involving cookie dough, Nestlé USA recalled two batches of its Toll House Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Bar products in August 2023 over concerns they may contain wood fragments.
