Anthropologie is recalling 19,380 of its Anecdote Autumn Glass Candles with double wicks due to their propensity to have higher-than-usual flames, causing the glass container to break apart and posing fire and laceration hazards, according to a recall notice.

โ€œAnthropologie has received nine reports of the candles flaming up, cracking or breaking apart while in use, resulting in minor property damage,โ€ the company says in the notice. Luckily, no injuries have been reported to date.

The notice says the recall involves candles in scents โ€˜Fireside Chats,โ€™ โ€˜Weekend Getaway,โ€™ โ€˜Sweater Weatherโ€™ and โ€˜Fall Feels,โ€™ all of which are made with glass tumblers, wood lids, cotton-core wicks, phthalate-free fragrance oils and a coconut-soy wax blend.

The candleโ€™s scent and โ€œAnecdote Candles for Anthropologieโ€ are printed on a label on the side of the glass candle container, and the SKU number is located on the price label on the bottom of the candles.

The candles have the following details:

  • Fireside Chats in blue; SKU Number 0063344923
  • Weekend Getaway in green; SKU Number 0063344980
  • Fall Feels in orange; SKU Number 0063344964
  • Sweater Weather in pink; SKU Number 0063344949

Anthropologie is urging consumers to immediately stop using the candles and return them to an Anthropologie store or visit www.anthropologie.com/recall for instructions on how to cut the candle wicks and dispose of the product, provide verification to Anthropologie and receive a full refund.

The candles were sold at Anthropologie stores nationwide and online at www.anthropologie.com between July and December 2021 for about $32. The recall notice says Anthropologie is contacting all known purchasers directly.

Exploding Vagina-Scented Candles Hit With Legal Action

Last May, lifestyle company Goop, owned by actor Gwyneth Paltrow, was hit with a class action lawsuit alleging its unique โ€œThis Smells Like My Vaginaโ€ candle does little to seduce and instead randomly explodes, posing risks to people and property.

Colby Watson, who says that he bought the $75 candle off Goopโ€™s website in January, says in the lawsuit that when he was using it for the first time, it became engulfed in flames. He added that Goop had continued to sell the candle on its site despite knowing the risks it posed.

Yes. We received Gwyneth Paltrowโ€™s Goop โ€˜Vaginaโ€™ Candle as a gift and yes it did just that. the glass shattered and some shards flew across the room. We donโ€™t have it though I threw it out. I still think I should be reimbursed.
