Jule’s Cashew Brie Recalled After Multi-State Salmonella Outbreak

Jule’s Foods has recalled various vegan products, including three types of cashew brie and other dressings and dips after receiving confirmation from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) of salmonella contamination.

The recalled cashew brie and other products were distributed across multiple states, including Arkansas, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Louisiana, Maryland, Minnesota, Nevada New York, New Jersey, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Tennessee, and Texas, according to the FDA notice issued Thursday. The products are mainly sold at independent grocers and are also available direct-to-consumer online. A list of grocery stores where the recalled cashew brie and other products were sold is available on the company’s website

The recalled products include the following:

  • Jule’s Cashew Brie (Classic), UPC: 860388001507
  • Jule’s Truffle Cashew Brie, UPC: 860388001514
  • Jule’s Black Garlic Cashew Brie, UPC: 860388001552
  • Jule’s Artichoke Spinach Dip, UPC: 860388001569
  • Jule’s Vegan Ranch Dressing, UPC: 860388001521

All expiration dates are included in the recall, according to the FDA. Consumers are instructed not to eat the products and either throw out or return remaining recalled cashew brie and other products to the place of purchase.

The FDA notice warns that consumption of products contaminated with salmonella can lead to diarrhea, cramping, and fever. While healthy adults generally recover without treatment, those with weakened immune systems, the elderly, and infants can develop severe illnesses and may even need to be hospitalized, says the agency.

“Older adults, infants, and persons with weakened immune systems are more likely to develop a severe illness,” states the notice.

The notice says that several regulatory agencies are working to identify the source of the salmonella outbreak. Samples were originally collected by the California Department and Jule’s has stopped production pending the investigation.

Top Class Actions will continue to monitor this and other food safety recalls in the interest of consumer protection.
