Class action settlements opened in November for consumers to join through December and beyond.

The class action settlements resolve claims involving biometric privacy law, data breaches, overdraft fees and false advertising, among other things. 

A company may agree to a class action settlement to resolve claims without admitting fault and/or to garner good faith with consumers while avoiding litigation.

Popular Bank agrees to pay $1.5M to end overdraft fee claims

Popular Bank agreed to pay $1.5 million to resolve claims it charged overdraft fees for certain debit card or ATM transactions. 

The settlement benefits a class of Popular Bank checking account holders who were assessed an overdraft fee between May 13, 2016, and July 26, 2024, and never issued a refund. 

Individuals who want to join the class action settlement must submit a valid claim form by Dec. 9, 2024. 

R.R Donnelley & Sons to pay $1.7M to end biometric privacy law claims

R.R. Donnelley & Sons and Precision Dialogue Direct agreed to pay $1.7 million to end claims they violated biometric privacy law in Illinois by using fingerprint time clocks without proper disclosure. 

The settlement benefits individuals who worked at a R.R. Donnelley & Sons location, including Precision Dialogue Direct, in Illinois and who registered for or used a fingerprint time clock between Aug. 26, 2017, and Jan. 29, 2024. 

Individuals who want to benefit from the class action settlement must submit a valid claim form by Dec. 10, 2024.

Air Methods to pay $240K over claims it failed to prevent data breach

Air Methods agreed to pay $240,000 to end claims the private medical helicopter operator failed to prevent a November 2023 data breach that exposed patient information. 

The settlement benefits a class of individuals who received a direct notice informing them their personal information may have been compromised in the Air Methods data breach. 

Individuals who want to join the class action settlement must submit a valid claim form by Dec. 11, 2024. 

Pinnacle Propane settles claims involving December 2022 data breach

Pinnacle Propane agreed to settle claims involving a December 2022 data breach. 

The settlement benefits a class of current and former Pinnacle Propane employees whose private information was either compromised or may have been compromised during a data breach disclosed by the company in June 2023. 

Individuals who want to join the class action settlement must submit a valid claim form by Dec. 13, 2024. 

Thomson Reuters to pay $27.5M over claims it exposed personal info 

Thomson Reuters agreed to pay $27.5 million to end claims the company’s Consolidated Lead Evaluation and Reporting database exposed the personal information of California residents. 

The settlement benefits a class of individuals who lived in the state of California between Dec. 3, 2016, and Oct. 31, 2024. 

Individuals who want to join the class action settlement must submit a valid claim form by Dec. 27, 2024.

Catholic University of America to pay $2M over COVID-19 tuition claims

Catholic University of America agreed to pay $2 million to end claims involving tuition during the COVID-19 pandemic, when students used remote learning. 

The settlement benefits a class of undergraduate or graduate students enrolled at Catholic University of America during the spring 2020 semester who did not withdraw by March 18, 2020. 

To qualify, the students must not have been fully refunded nor paid tuition and fees to the school through a scholarship, grant or tuition remission. 

No claim form is required to be eligible to join the class action settlement. The exclusion and objection deadline is Dec. 23, 2024.

Hilb Group agrees to pay $1.6M over data breach claims

Hilb Group agreed to pay $1.6 million to end claims the insurance broker failed to prevent a data breach that may have exposed customer information between Dec. 1, 2022, and Jan. 12, 2023. 

The settlement benefits a class of individuals whose personal information was either accessed or potentially accessed during the data breach, including anyone who received a data breach notification from Hilb Group in the mail. 

Individuals who want to make a claim to join the class action settlement must submit a valid claim form by Feb. 3, 2025. 

Bridgeway Center settles claims it failed to prevent data breach

Bridgeway Center agreed to a settlement to resolve claims the nonprofit health and human services company failed to prevent a 2024 data breach that exposed the personal information of employees and patients. 

The settlement benefits a class of individuals whose personal information was exposed during the Bridgeway Center data breach, including anyone who received a data breach notification from the company in May 2024. 

Individuals who want to make a claim to join the class action settlement must submit a valid claim form by Feb. 8, 2025. 

Beyond Meat to pay $7.5M to end claims it overstated protein, quality

Beyond Meat agreed to pay $7.5 million to put an end to claims the plant-based meat company overstated the protein content and quality of its products. 

The settlement benefits a class of consumers who purchased certain Beyond Meat products between May 31, 2018, and Aug. 14, 2024. 

Individuals who want to make a claim to join the class action settlement must submit a valid claim form by April 14, 2025. 

ESO Solutions agrees to pay $1.4M over BIPA claims 

ESO Solutions agreed to pay more than $4.1 million to end claims the company violated Illinois’ biometric privacy law with its eCore Solutions ePro BioClock.

The settlement benefits a class of individuals who scanned their finger using an ePro BioClock in Illinois and whose finger scan was hosted on a server owned or leased by ESO Solutions between Jan. 24, 2017, and Sept. 10, 2024. 

No claim form is required to be eligible to join the eCore Solutions class action settlement. The deadline for exclusion and objection is Dec. 2, 2024.
