It is winter and time for more class action rebates! Check back throughout December to see if you qualify for any of these class action settlements!

Be sure to take advantage of class action settlements you qualify for in December, including cash payments and other benefits. Who knows, maybe you’ll be able to start a vacation fund, pay off debt or just enjoy a little extra padding in your bank account!

Tennessee Orthopaedic Alliance Phishing Attack Class Action Settlement

Individuals affected by a 2019 phishing attack on the Tennessee Orthopaedic Alliance may be able to claim free fraud and credit monitoring and up to $2,000 in reimbursements in a new class action settlement.

The Tennessee Orthopaedic Alliance notified patients in February of 2020 that their personal health information had been exposed in a data breach caused by employees responding to phishing emails. A class action lawsuit alleged that the organization did not properly protect patient data, nor did it provide timely notification to those whose personal information was exposed.

TOA refuses to admit any liability, but has agreed to reimburse Class Members for up to $2,000 in losses related to their compromised information. In addition, all Class Members are entitled to a year of free identity theft protection and three years of fraud resolution services.

Class Members need to act quickly! The deadline to submit a claim is Dec. 28, 2020.

$5M Walmart, Sam’s Club Sales Tax Refund Class Action Settlement

Consumers may be able to receive a class action rebate for sales tax they did not receive for a return to Walmart or Sam’s Club.

According to a class action lawsuit filed against the retail giant, consumers who made purchases at Walmart or Sam’s Club between July 17, 2015 and Nov. 25, 2020 and returned the items may not have received their sales tax back. The plaintiff claimed that the failure to include sales tax in the refunds was a violation of Missouri state law.

Walmart admitted no wrongdoing, but agreed to pay $5 million to end the litigation. No proof of purchase is required, but Class Members must submit a claim form by April 2, 2021 to claim their share of the settlement award.

Great Plains High Interest Loan Class Action Settlement

Consumers who got a loan with Great Plains Lending or Plain Green or cash advance from MobiLoans may be able to take part in a $57 million class action settlement.

Great Plains, Plain Green, and MobiLoans, all banks owned by Native American tribes and doing business as Think Finance, were accused of charging exorbitant interest rates on loans and cash advances. The banks denied any liability, claiming that the high interest rates were permitted under tribal law; however, they agreed to cancel debts to those who took loans out from Great Plains or Plain Green before June 1, 2016, or cash advances from MobiLoans before May 6, 2017.

In addition, some Class Members may be entitled to a cash class action rebate under the settlement agreement. Class Members will be automatically entered into the settlement to receive benefits, but should check to ensure their address and contact information is up to date on the settlement website.

Sports Research Corporation Class Action Settlement

Consumers may be able to claim a $7 class action rebate in a settlement over the alleged deceptive advertising of Sports Research’s MCT Oil and Turmeric Curcumin C3 products.

A class action lawsuit claimed that Sports Research told consumers that its products were “packed with beneficial fats” and would help them sustain “natural” energy, along with a number of other health-related claims. However, the process of making the products belied those marketing statements, alleged the plaintiffs, duping consumers into paying a premium for the products.

Sports Research refused to admit any wrongdoing, but agreed to provide those who purchased its Premium MCT Oil products and/or Turmeric Curcumin C3 Complex products between Jan. 9, 2016 and Jan. 9, 2020 a $3 cash award or $7 product voucher.

Claim forms are due by Feb. 23, 2021.

Waste Management of New York Class Action Settlement

Current and former New York residents may be eligible for class action rebates from a $2.7 million settlement with a residential disposal services company.

A New York woman accused Waste Management of New York of forcing her and others to pay exorbitant fees for receiving paper copies of their billing statements. Her class action lawsuit accused the company of violating New York state law prohibiting fees for paper bills, as well as for paying bills through the mail.

Waste Management of New York denied any wrongdoing but agreed to reimburse both current and former customers who had been assessed a paper billing statement fee. Those who paid an “Administrative Fee” for Waste Management disposal services between Sept. 27, 2016, and Aug. 27, 2020, for a New York residence are Class Members.

Those who have current or recently closed accounts with Waste Management will be automatically entered into the settlement. Class Members who closed their Waste Management account prior to Aug. 27 will need to submit a claim form to receive class action rebates. The claim form is due Feb. 20, 2021.

BMW Coolant Pump Class Action Settlement

Owners and lessees of 2007 through 2019 BMWs may be able to earn as much as $1,000 in class action rebates over an allegedly defective coolant pump.

A class action lawsuit claimed certain BMWs came with a defective coolant pump that caused the vehicles to rapidly overheat, resulting in thousand of dollars of damage. BMW refused to admit any wrongdoing, but agreed to reimburse BMW owners for out-of-pocket costs associated with the repairs.

Class Members can claim labor and repair costs by submitting a claim form and proof of payment. In addition, the carmaker agreed to extend the warranties on the vehicles.

Claim forms are due March 20, 2021.

BMW Timing Chain Class Action Rebates

BMW owners may also be able to claim as much as $7,500 under a class action settlement agreement over timing chains.

BMW was accused of equipping certain vehicles with defective N20 and N26 engines. According to the plaintiffs, the timing chain is defective and can damage or even destroy the engines.

BMW said it did nothing wrong, but agreed to pay between 40% and 100% of out-of-pocket expenses related to timing chain repairs in affected vehicles.

Claim forms are due by March 18, 2021.

Kalispell Data Breach Class Action Settlement

Those affected by a data breach at Kalispell Regional Healthcare may be able to claim free credit monitoring, a cash payment of up to $100 or more than $15,000 in reimbursement.

class action rebates cash next to piggy bank wearing a Santa hatAccording to a class action lawsuit, in October 2019 the health care center told customers their personal information had been accessed by hackers through an email scheme. The class action lawsuit alleged Kalispell failed to properly protect customer information.

The health care company denied liability, but agreed to pay $4.2 million to end the litigation. Under the terms of the settlement, Class Members can claim either five years of free credit monitoring or $100 cash.

In addition, Class Members can submit claims for up to $15,075 in reimbursement for time end expenses lost to identity theft and fraud caused by the data breach.

Class Members must submit their claims forms by Feb. 25, 2021.

Burley Tobacco Growers Class Action Settlement

Those who grew burley tobacco in Indiana, Kentucky, Missouri, Ohio or West Virginia between 2015 and 2020 may be able to claim as much as $6,000 in a class action settlement with their growers association, the Burley Tobacco Growers Cooperative Association (BTGCA).

The BTGCA was accused of failing to act in the best interest of its members and hiding those actions from members. As part of the settlement agreement ending some of the class action lawsuit claims, the BTGCA will dissolve and funds will be distributed to Class Members.

Class Members need to verify they are included in the database of BTGCA members and, if not, submit proof that they were members by Jan. 29, 2021.

UnityPoint Data Breach Class Action Settlement

Those subjected to multiple data breaches at UnityPoint Health may be able to claim as much as $7,000 and a year of free credit monitoring in a class action settlement.

According to a class action lawsuit, personal information of UnityPoint Health customers was exposed in data breaches in 2017 and 2018. In addition to exposing their data, plaintiffs accused the company of failing to inform individuals affected by the breach in a timely manner. Further, the company offered few resources in the wake of the breaches.

UnityPoint Health said it did nothing wrong, but agreed to pay $2.8 million to end the class action lawsuit. Class Members can claim a year of free identity theft protection, as well as up to $7,000 in reimbursement for time and expenses related to the data breaches.

The claim form is due by March 3, 2021.

Chime Digital Bank Outage Class Action Settlement

Chime Digital Bank customers can claim a $750 class action rebate.

A class action lawsuit alleged Chime customers were unable to access their deposit accounts on two occasions in October 2019. The plaintiffs said the lack of access caused customers to be unable to pay for necessities, like groceries and other bills. Further, the bank allegedly failed to communicate effectively, only posting updates via Twitter and not contacting customers directly.

Chime Bank admits no liability, but agreed to pay $1.5 million to end the litigation. Under the terms of the settlement, Class Members can claim up to $750 in reimbursement for documented losses resulting from the lack of access to their Chime account or a $25 class action rebate if they do not have documentation.

Claim forms are due by Feb. 15, 2021.

How To Benefit From Class Action Rebates

Check the settlement website to ensure you are eligible for the class action settlement. If so, review how to make a claim in the settlement and go for it! You could recover significant compensation.

Some class action settlement agreements require Class Members to submit a claim form to get their award. Some Class Members must also provide supporting documentation, such as proof of payment or receipts.

All Class Members should be sure to note relevant deadlines for claim forms and other documents they need to submit. Don’t lose out just because of a missed deadline!
