pressure cookerMore and more consumers are coming forward with allegations of serious pressure cooker accidents, claiming their pressure cookers are seriously defective. Customer complaints allege a few defects that can lead to pressure cooker accidents.

Pressure Cooker Accidents

The first and arguably most serious of the defects that can cause pressure cooker accidents is a defective pot lid seal. A defective lid seal can lead to spilling or even explosion of the pressure cooker’s contents.

Pressure built up with an inadequate seal can cause the food and liquid inside to be expelled rapidly. If anyone is nearby, scalding hot food inside the cooker can cause second- or third-degree burns, which is hardly a risk anyone who buys a pressure cooker has signed up for.

Pressure cooker accidents may also be caused by faulty cooker gaskets, which can allow the pot to open while under high pressure. This can cause burns by direct contact, or even from the extremely hot steam. In some cases, pressure cookers have also reportedly exploded because of inadequate ventilation of the steam.

Pressure cooker accidents are surprisingly common. Defects are discovered every year that can lead to these kinds of injuries, and recalls are subsequently issued.

Recalls Over Pressure Cooker Accidents

Pressure cooker accidents are nothing new: these devices have been linked to reports of explosions and injuries for decades.

For instance, in 1983 nearly a quarter million Alcan pressure cookers were recalled because of a defective gasket component. In 2006, hundreds of QVC pressure cookers were recalled over serious burns from a Welbilt device. Thousands of Manttra pressure cookers were recalled in 2007 because of a faulty sealing lid, and thousands more Cucina Zip Cookers were recalled that same year due to pressurized expulsion of contents.

If you have suffered from pressure cooker burns or other injuries after using a pressure cooker, you may be able to file a lawsuit against the manufacturer.

Reporting Pressure Cooker Accidents and Injuries

A number of complaints have appeared for years across the internet, as customers note their own experiences with pressure cooker burns from a variety of pressure cooker products. After years of these complaints appearing online, a class action lawsuit investigation has been launched into the problem of pressure cooker burns from a variety of manufacturers. Manufacturers included in the investigation are:

  • Aldi
  • Crofton
  • Cuisinart
  • Maxi-Matic
  • Tristar
  • Wolfgang Puck
  • Others

Filing a Lawsuit After Pressure Cooker Accidents

Several lawsuits have already been filed over pressure cooker accidents against a number of companies, including Wolfgang Puck, Tristar, and Maxi-Matic. Plaintiffs seek hundreds of thousands of dollars in compensation for their injuries, claiming medical expenses, pain and suffering, permanent disfigurement, lost wages, damage to property, and more.

It is the responsibility of manufacturers and retailers to make sure the products they sell are safe. Lawsuits allege that various pressure cooker manufacturers failed to adequately warn customers about the risk of pressure cooker accidents, placing customers at serious risk of injuries.

If you have suffered from pressure cooker burns after using a device from one of these manufacturers or even one not listed, you may be able to file a lawsuit. While filing a lawsuit cannot take away the pain and suffering caused by pressure cooker burns, it can help to alleviate the financial burden caused by medical expenses and lost wages.
