California love seekers have secured a $17.3 million Tinder age bias class action settlement.

Tinder is a popular dating app that allows users to connect with those in their geographic area.

Class Members include those who purchased a subscription to Tinder Plus or Tinder Gold between March 2, 2015 and March 1, 2019, who were at least 29-years-old and residents of California at the time.

A California woman accused Tinder of age discrimination when it rolled out deluxe versions of its popular app.

According to the Tinder age bias class action lawsuit, Tinder users 29 or older were charged more for Tinder Plus and Tinder Gold – versions of the originally free app that allow users to change their location, hide ads, and access other features.

The Tinder class action lawsuit alleged that users under the age of 29 received a 50 percent discount to subscribe to the Gold or Plus versions.

According to plaintiff Lisa Kim, this pricing structure is discriminatory. However, Tinder contended that the pricing structure simply reflected the preferred price points of various age groups revealed by market testing.

The plaintiff, on the other hand, said that the pricing structure for Tinder Plus and Tinder Gold violated California anti-discrimination laws because the difference in pricing was based on age.

Under the terms of the Tinder age discrimination class action settlement, the dating company will pay $17.3 million to Class Members.

Class Members who still subscribe to Tinder will receive 50 “Super Likes” at no costs. Super Likes are a premium feature of the application. They cost $1 each and allow users to enhance their profile, making it more noticeable to potential love interests.

In addition, Class Members who submit Claim Forms can receive one of three awards: $25 cash; an additional 25 Super Likes; or, a free one-month subscription to the Plus or Gold versions of the Tinder app.

Class Members must submit the Unique Claim ID provided on the Notice. Class Members who do not receive the Notice can contact the Settlement Administrator at 1-888-437-2280.

The deadline to object to or opt out of the Tinder age bias class action settlement is May 6, 2019.
