A Michigan woman recently filed a Unum ERISA lawsuit against the Unum Life Insurance Company of America, alleging it unfairly denied her long-term disability benefits.
Plaintiff Terri P. alleges in this Unum ERISA lawsuit that she was covered by Unum long-term disability insurance through her employment. According to the Unum ERISA lawsuit, Terri’s Unum long-term disability policy is governed by the Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA).
According to Terri’s Unum ERISA lawsuit, the insurance contract required that Unum provide Terri’s long-term disability benefits should she become unable to work because of some disabling condition like injury or disease.
The plaintiff suffers from several conditions that make her unable to work, the Unum ERISA lawsuit alleges. Among these conditions that disable her from work include lumbar and cervical stenosis and chronic pain. Ultimately, Terri alleges that Unum wrongfully denied her long-term disability benefits.
Terri attempted to counteract Unum’s initial denial by filing an appeal, but Unum rejected her appeal and continued to deny benefits. After exhausting all administrative approaches, Terri chose to file a Unum ERISA lawsuit.
Terri’s situation is not a solitary occurrence. Indeed, many patients have been denied long-term disability benefits and claim that the denial was improper. Many plaintiffs suffering from disabling conditions have, like Terri, filed ERISA lawsuits against Unum after being denied these benefits.
Plaintiffs allege that Unum Life Insurance has unfairly denied long-term disability benefits, placing company profit over patient health and safety.
Filing an Unum ERISA Lawsuit over Denied Long-Term Disability Benefits
A growing number of plaintiffs are filing disability benefits lawsuits against Unum, claiming that the insurance giant unfairly denied their claims to benefits that they qualify for under the terms of their insurance policies.
This Unum ERISA lawsuit and others like it allege that Unum, as the largest disability insurance company in the country, has unfairly denied the disability insurance claims of plaintiffs who are qualified to receive such benefits.
Some plaintiffs go further, alleging that the company purposely denied the claims of hundreds of thousands of workers with legitimate disabilities for no reason other to increase company profit.
Former employees of Unum have reported being instructed to purposely deny insurance to people with legitimate claims to disability benefits in order to fulfill the company’s quota.
Consumers who have exhausted all recourse through applications and appeals for disability benefits may turn to filing an EERISA lawsuit over denied disability benefits, hoping to reverse Unum’s denial.
If you or someone you know has been unfairly denied long-term disability benefits by Unum Life Insurance Company of America, you may be able to file an Unum ERISA lawsuit over denied disability benefits.
