talcum powderA new lawsuit has been filed alleging that talc baby powder from Johnson & Johnson can cause serious baby powder injuries, including ovarian cancer.

The plaintiff alleges that Susan H., a resident of New York, began using Johnson & Johnson baby powder as part of a personal hygiene routine in around 1980, and continued this routine until 2010, around 30 years later. In November 2010, however, Susan was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. Unfortunately, in July 2015, Susan suffered an untimely death due to her cancer.

Her lawsuit was then filed by her widower, plaintiff Gregory H., on July 5, 2017. According to the baby powder injuries lawsuit, Susan’s ovarian cancer was a direct result of using Johnson & Johnson’s baby powder products in her genital area.

The baby powder lawsuit was filed on multiple counts, including failure to warn, defective manufacture and design, breach of express and implied warranties, negligence, fraud, civil conspiracy, loss of consortium and wrongful death, among several others.

Baby Powder Injuries

Baby powder has been a widely used product for decades. Johnson & Johnson’s Shower to Shower and Johnson’s Baby Powder products are some of the most popular on the market.

Although these products were marketed primarily for usage on babies to prevent rash problems, Johnson & Johnson has allegedly also marketed the product to be used as part of a woman’s daily hygiene routine—that is, in her genital area. Since generations of women have used baby powder products as part of a daily hygiene routine, ovarian cancer caused by the product could prove deadly for many.

By marketing the product as safe and effective for this use, lawsuits claim, Johnson & Johnson has misrepresented the actual safety of its product, concealing allegedly known risks.

Ovarian Cancer

Ovarian cancer is a particularly dangerous form of cancer. Unfortunately, since there are few early symptoms of ovarian cancer, this disease is usually not discovered until much later, in the last stages of the cancer, which makes this alleged baby powder side effect even more dangerous.

Once a patient has progressed into the later stages of cancer, there may not be much that can be done to stop the disease.

Filing a Lawsuit Over Baby Powder Injuries

If you have used Johnson & Johnson’s Shower to Shower or a similar talc powder product, especially as part of a regular hygiene routine, and have since been diagnosed with ovarian cancer, you may be able to file a baby powder lawsuit.

Additionally, you may file a baby powder wrongful death lawsuit if someone you love has died from ovarian cancer after regularly using this product.

While filing a baby powder lawsuit cannot take away the pain and suffering of baby powder injuries like ovarian cancer, and cannot bring a loved one back to life, it can help to alleviate the financial burden caused by medical expenses and lost wages.

The Baby Powder Injuries Lawsuit is Case No. 3:17-cv-4907, in the U.S District Court for the District of New Jersey.
