Clean air is something everyone wants to breathe, and for allergy sufferers, people with asthma or other breathing disorders, it can be important for their health. That’s why many consumers purchase air purifiers for their homes.

One of the hottest trending air purifiers on the market, the Molekule Air, has gotten a lot of attention for its claims to have revolutionized air purifying technology. It was even included among Time magazine’s best inventions of 2017.

Since then though, several of the company’s claims have been challenged. Unhappy customers might say the company is guilty of mislabeling their product, and now may be wondering what the Molekule return policy is.

Is Molekule Worth it?

Molekule’s advertising campaigns have boasted the company’s unique photoelectrochemical oxidation technology destroys gases, germs, bacteria, viruses and mold spores and relieves asthma and allergy symptoms among its users. However, according to Wirecutter, one of two publications to test and review the devices, the Molekule Air doesn’t work very well.

In fact, in its guide to air purifiers, Wirecutter called it “the worst” the reviewers had ever tested.

“The Molekule turned in the worst performance on particulates of any purifier, of any size, of any price, that we have tested in the seven years that we have been producing this guide,” the testers wrote.

Meanwhile, consumer product powerhouse Consumer Reports conducted its own testing of the Molekule and recommended that, at nearly $800, the Air was not worth the money.

James Dickerson, Consumer Reports’ chief scientific officer, said the Molekule Air was “not proficient at catching larger airborne particles, which ultimately means it’s not getting enough air passing through the system.” The unit almost failed the standard regimen of testing Consumer Reports put it through, the magazine said.

How Much is Molekule Air Purifier?

The Molekule offers three models according to the size of the space customers want to use it in.

The Molekule Air is advertised for large rooms, of up to 600 square feet, and is sold for $799, according to the company’s website. The Air Mini+, which features particle sensor technology and an auto protect mode, and Air Mini, which does not, are recommended for small rooms, up to 250 square feet. The Air Mini+ sells for $499 and the Air Mini is $399.

Does Molekule Remove Odors?

In the language of air filtration, purifiers are assessed on their ability to rid the air of many kinds of particles including some of the most obvious to consumers — volatile organic compounds, or odors and fumes. In both the Wirecutter and Consumer Reports testing, the Molekule did not remove enough particulates to significantly eliminate odors, they said.

What is the Molekule Return Policy?

woman giving an item the thumbs downMolekule says it offers customers a 30-home trial of their air purifiers and a 100-percent return policy. Technically though, consumers have 30 days from when the device was shipped – not received – to request a refund.

Returns can be made if the customer is unsatisfied for any reason, the company states. Shipping costs are also covered in the 100-percent Molekule return policy.

To return a Molekule Air, Air Mini+ or Air Mini, a customer must first request a “return authorization” from the manufacturer’s customer service. The authorization number provided by the company must be included in the return packaging.

The device must be in good condition – not broken or physically damaged – and any and all accessories included with the original order must be sent back along with the air purifier.

Can You Request a Molekule Return for False Marketing?

Customers who try the Molekule purifiers but find they don’t perform according to their expectations based on the company’s advertisements and product information can, according to the Molekule return policy, request a full refund as long as that request is made within 30 days of the item being shipped.

It’s been 3 years… is it a long shot to return? I never noticed it since we have a large room. After watching that review, it definitely irritates me.

Bought for music studio. Appalled by the reviews I’ve seen since then. Haven’t been teaching in-person yet, so haven’t used it, but need to replace with no ability to return.
