  • Why: Taco Bell allegedly falsely advertises the amount of beef and other ingredients in some of its products.
  • Where: The Taco Bell class action lawsuit was filed in New York federal court.

Taco Bell Corp. falsely advertises the amount of beef and other ingredients in some of its signature meals, according to a class action lawsuit filed July 31 in New York federal court.

Plaintiff Frank Siragusa says Taco Bell food advertisements and menu ordering boards depict the Crunchwrap Supreme, Grande Crunchwrap, Vegan Crunchwrap, Mexican Pizza and Veggie Mexican Pizza menu items as containing more than twice the amount of ingredients than reality.

The misleading pictures of the Taco Bell food items are “unfair and financially damaging to consumers as they are receiving a product that is materially lower in value than what is being promised,” the Taco Bell lawsuit says.

Taco Bell’s deception is especially problematic during a time in which food and meat prices are high and many consumers are struggling financially, the lawsuit states.

“Taco Bell’s promise to consumers of a large portion of food with their purchase are also causing consumers to come to, or order from, Taco Bell’s restaurants and make purchases that they would not have otherwise made,” the Taco Bell class action says.

The company’s false advertisements of portion sizes entices consumers to purchase Taco Bell food instead of purchasing meals from competing restaurants that more fairly advertise the size of their menu items, according to the lawsuit, which points to several news articles and online complaints that the Taco Bell food items did not look like the pictures in the advertisements.

Plaintiff says he would not have paid as much for Taco Bell food if not for false ads

Siragusa says he purchased a Mexican Pizza from Taco Bell after viewing the advertisements online and at the store. He claims he expected the Taco Bell food to contain a similar amount of meat and beans as depicted in the advertisements. However, the meal he received allegedly contained about half the beef and bean filling he expected.

Had he known Taco Bell overstated the amount of beef and beans in the Mexican Pizza menu item, Siragusa says he would not have paid $5.49 for the meal.

Siragusa filed the Taco Bell class action lawsuit on behalf of himself and a proposed class of consumers who purchased one of the allegedly falsely advertised menu items from a Taco Bell in New York since July 31, 2020.

In other recent Taco Bell news, the chain recently won a challenge to cancel the trademark for the phrase “Taco Tuesday.”

Siragusa is represented by James Kelly of The Law Office of James C. Kelly and Anthony J. Russo Jr. PA d/b/a The Russo Firm.

The Taco Bell class action lawsuit is Frank Siragusa v. Taco Bell Corp., Case No. 1:23-cv-05748-DG-RER, in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York.

Add me. The picture does not look like what get.

  2. Jessica Rowe DeSilva says:

Oh please add me to the list!! I have called and complained multiple times about the quality of the food. First off when you get a hard shell taco you expect it to be hard right? If I wanted a “soft” taco I would have asked for a burrito!! The shells are never hard always soggy with the he amount of grease in the meat! And meat, what meat, you have to open the taco or whatever you ordered and peel back the endless amounts of lettuce just to find a half a scoop of meat! You order and pay for extra and you still don’t get the extra meat but the have no problem charging you for the meat! Taco Bell is a joke anymore!! The quality of the fast food chain has diminished over time. The meat is barely even warm, nothing is as good as it looks on the commercials. Please please add me!! Thank you

  3. DILEIMY S PRIETO says:

Yes, there is hardly any meat in their crunch wrap and all of their other products. They add a lot of lettuce to disguise it. I always have to order “no lettuce” to somewhat get more beef, but that doesn’t always work. Let’s not even start talking about how they also always screw up your order or miss an item.

  4. Latasha Hammond says:

Add me I always pay for extras cause I barely get any thing as pricey as they are you shall

  5. Kim says:

Yes I have wanted to sue them too ! They’re used to be a big amount of beef in the Mexican pizza . What you get now is ridiculous!! Especially for what they charge ! Almost $6 for a tortilla shell and a few tomatoes!

  6. Linda Tolbert says:

I hope this lawsuit produces results. The amount of filling in the crunchy tacos is ridiculously inadequate and definitely not as advertised. I would be happy to join this lawsuit, and I have photos of tacos with a total filling (meat, cheese, lettuce) of approximately one tablespoon. The preformed shells are designed for a specific amount of filling. Since they don’t fill with that minimum, the shells crumble into pieces with the first bite.

I complained multiple times before finally parting ways with Taco Bell.

  7. Vera Griffus says:

Goditas, Chalupas, burritos, tacos, nachos etc I’ve eaten them all, you receive barely any meat, cheese but all are filled up with lots of lettuce and tomato it’s a shame truly the dollar menu items advertised as well is worst. I love Taco Bell but they gotta do better

  8. teresa gonzalez says:

all this meat shortage has been going on for quiet a while I love taco bell but it’s ridiculous the portion of meat you buy the packs of tacos but always a dissapointment with the taco shells oversized and a spoonful of meat do like taco bueno if your going too spoon in your meat downsize the taco shells that way they don’t look broken in half and stuck together there’s no need for it it’s in all the food what fools us is that in the burritos you add rice or beans take care of your patrons we keep coming but it’s a dissapintment

  9. Kimberly Delgado says:

There is always barely any meat in the tacos or burritos ,for what you get you are over charged

  10. Rhonda Williams says:

I always pay for extra because the meat is sparse but even paying for extra, it is still very little meat. They fill up the bowl with fillers or chips.
