Consumers could benefit from a $12 million Clif Bar settlement if they purchased bars with exaggerated nutrition claims.

The settlement benefits consumers who purchased certain Clif Bar products between April 19, 2014, and March 31, 2023, for California and New York residents or between March 31, 2019, and March 31, 2023, for consumers outside California and New York.

Eligible products include Clif Bars bearing the phrase “Nutrition for Sustained Energy” and Clif Kid ZBars bearing the claims “No High Fructose Corn Syrup,” “Nourishing Kids in Motion” and other similar claims.

According to the class action lawsuit, Clif Bar packaging contained misleading claims that made the products seem healthy. These bars were allegedly unhealthy due to their high added sugar content.

Clif Bar & Co. sells protein bars and snack bars marketed toward outdoors enthusiasts, children and other consumers.

Clif Bar hasn’t admitted any wrongdoing but agreed to pay $12 million to resolve the false advertising class action lawsuit.

Under the terms of the Clif Bar settlement, class members can receive $5 for up to 30 bars, $10 for between 31 and 59 bars and $15 for more than 60 bars. These payments are available regardless of whether consumers can provide proof of purchase.

Class members who provide proof of purchase can receive $15 for the first 60 bars. For additional bars with proof of purchase, class members can receive $0.25 per bar for a maximum total payment of $50.

The deadline for exclusion and objection is Oct. 22, 2024.

The final approval hearing for the settlement is scheduled for Nov. 14, 2024.

To receive a Clif Bar settlement payment, consumers must submit a valid claim form by Nov. 25, 2024.
