  • The final approval hearing in the Lenovo class action lawsuit settlement has been rescheduled for Feb. 14, 2024.

Lenovo has agreed to a class action lawsuit settlement to end claims it misled consumers to buy certain Yoga and Flex model Lenovo laptop computers with display screen defects.

The Lenovo class action lawsuit settlement benefits people who purchased certain Lenovo laptops within certain date ranges, where the laptops’ display was affected by flickering, freezing, blacking out or non-physical breakage of the display, including a gray screen marked by vertical lines, during ordinary use.

The laptops included in the Lenovo settlement are:

  • Lenovo Yoga 730 laptop computer machine type 81CT, 81CU or 81JS, purchased in the United States from Jan. 26, 2018, to April 10, 2023, excluding any laptop computers manufactured after June 19, 2019
  • Lenovo Flex 5 laptop computer machine type 81CA purchased in the United States from Aug. 14, 2017, to April 10, 2023, excluding any laptop computers manufactured after June 19, 2019
  • Lenovo Flex 5 laptop computer machine types 80XB, 80XA or 81C9, purchased in the United States from March 9, 2017, to April 10, 2023

The Lenovo settlement only benefits those who bought the laptops for personal use, not for resale.

The Lenovo class action lawsuit alleged the company violated consumer laws by misleading consumers about the presence of a display defect that caused flickering and freezing screens in some Lenovo laptops. The plaintiffs said consumers would have made different purchasing decisions if they had known about the defect.

The company denies the allegations and has agreed to the Lenovo laptop settlement to end the claims.

Lenovo is a Fortune Global 500 technology company that employs more than 63,000 employees to serve customers in 180 markets. Its 2022 revenue was more than $71 billion.

Under the terms of the Lenovo settlement, the company has agreed to provide either a one-time free repair of the affected laptops or a one-time payment of $100 to compensate every class member who submits a claim form by Jan. 3, 2024.

To be eligible for the one-time payment, all eligible class members must provide proof of purchase/receipt/invoice or other documentation sufficient to show they purchased one of the defective laptops, as well as their laptop serial number and a statement that their laptop is suffering from the defect.

If a Lenovo laptop settlement class member has already had the laptop display defect repaired, Lenovo will compensate them for the amount spent on the repair up to $100, so long as they submit a timely claim form, provide evidence of the purchase of the laptop, serial number, a statement attesting to the display issues and evidence of the repairs.

The deadline to opt out of or object to the Lenovo Yoga and Flex laptop screen class action lawsuit settlement is Aug. 21, 2023.

A final approval hearing in the Lenovo settlement will take place Feb. 14, 2024.

The deadline to submit a claim in the Lenovo laptop settlement is June 19, 2024.

Good morning. I received a letter saying that I did not include proof of ownership and receipt for purchase. I can email a copy of the receipt bc when I print it, it is not showing well bc it is so old. I have tried everything. Is there a number I can call or email? The receipt order number is right on the box in which the laptop came. Please advise.

  5. DelilahTheSober says:

My letter was a denial stating that the serial number I provided didn’t match the list of affected units. Whatever.

  6. Southie says:

I got denied because “x – You are not the owner or no longer have the laptop” – No duh Sherlock! LENOVO has my laptop and they never returned it after the 3rd warranty claim because I brought this in Sept 2017, and the third time it was in May 2018! They told me my warranty had expired! Not only did not return the laptop, they KEPT the laptop and closed the RMA! THIS SHOULD TELL EVERYONE TO WATCH OUT FOR THE RUST CONSULTING INC – THEY ARE GETTING KICK BACKS! THEY’RE STEALING CUSTOMER’S MONEY!
