Class Members who registered their new Dash through the Sony Essentials website and whose Dash was turned on and connected to Sony’s servers as of July 12, 2017, are eligible for a $35 payment.

Along with the claim form, Class Members must submit any additional document required.

Proof of purchase may be in the form of a receipt, a photo of the class series/model and serial number on the Class Member’s Dash, or any other circumstantial documentation of the purchase.

Class Members who received a notice about the Sony Dash class action settlement must include their unique purchase code. The settlement administrator will use the code for verification purposes.

The lead plaintiff in a class action lawsuit had alleged Sony improperly stopped supporting the Dash Personal Internet Viewer in July 2017.

Sony, founded in 1946 as Tokyo Telecommunications Engineering Corp., makes a broad range of electronics, from televisions and home theaters to professional video cameras and smartphones.

The Sony Dash — now discontinued, according to Amazon — was a device used for viewing online content such as weather and traffic reports, social networking, and more. It also was able to function as an alarm clock as well as a music- and video-streaming device.

Sony has denied all allegations of wrongdoing, and the Court has not found in favor of either party.

However, both sides have agreed to the settlement in order to limit future expense and risk associated with continuing the litigation and going to trial.

A final approval hearing in the Sony Dash settlement will be held July 19, 2021.

Exclusion requests and objections must be submitted no later than June 1, 2021.

The deadline to file a claim is also June 1, 2021.
