What is the NEC baby formula lawsuit about?
Similac and Enfamil are two of the most common baby formulas given to premature infants. Both brands have produced specialized formulas marketed as being “designed” for premature babies.
However, these formulas are made with cow’s milk, which studies have linked to a higher risk of developing necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC) when compared to breast milk. NEC is a dangerous intestinal disease that can cause serious health complications, organ failure or even death.
The lawsuits in the NEC baby formula MDL allege that Abbott Laboratories (makers of Similac) and Mead Johnson (makers of Enfamil) knew about this risk but failed to warn parents and healthcare providers. As a result, many premature babies may have needlessly suffered severe health problems or died.
Through filing an NEC baby formula lawsuit, parents are seeking compensation for medical expenses, long-term care, pain and suffering, and wrongful death.
