Coffee drinkers may be eligible to claim up to $25 as part of a $16 million Maxwell House settlement over the advertised number of servings the coffee products contain.

The nationwide Class is made up of anyone who purchased one or more Maxwell House- or Yuban-branded ground coffee products for personal use between Aug. 27, 2015, and Jan. 18, 2021.

A list of the affected products is available on the settlement website.

Class Members in the Maxwell House settlement who do not submit proof of purchase will be able to claim $0.80 per unit, up to a maximum of six, for a total of $4.80.

Those who are able to provide proof of purchase may also claim $0.80 per unit purchased, up to a total reimbursement of $25.

Proof of purchase may be either proof of a receipt or documentation provided by a third-party commercial source that reasonably establishes the purchase was made, as well as the date of the purchase.

The actual amount of Class Members’ payouts may be reduced or adjusted depending on the number claims submitted.

Claims are limited to one per household.

In order to file a claim online, Class Members must register for a claim ID on the settlement website.

Plaintiff Kimberly E. Ferron’s class action lawsuit had claimed Maxwell House coffee products are marketed using misleading information about the number of servings they contain, as well as about the serving sizes.

Kraft Heinz has denied any wrongdoing, and a court has not ruled in favor of either party.

However, both parties have agreed to a settlement in order to avoid the cost and risk of ongoing litigation.

In addition to the monetary relief, Kraft Heinz has agreed to change its labeling practices as part of the settlement deal. The company will remove or revise the claims about the number of servings its products can make by following the brewing instructions.

A hearing in the case is set for June 21, 2021.

Class Members who want to exclude themselves from or object to the Maxwell House settlement must do so by April 7, 2021.

The deadline to file a claim form is May 18, 2021.
