Mazda class action lawsuit overview:ย
- Who: Plaintiff Matt Cauller filed a class action lawsuit against Mazda Motor of America Inc. d/b/a Mazda North American Operations and Mazda Motor Corporation.ย
- Why: Cauller claims Mazda knowingly sold certain vehicles with a dangerous engine defect.ย
- Where: The class action lawsuit was filed in California federal court.ย
A new class action lawsuit alleges that Mazda knowingly exposed the purchasers of hundreds of thousands of vehicles to a dangerous engine defect.ย
Plaintiff Matt Caullerโs class action lawsuit claims Mazda failed to disclose that its SKYACTIV-G 2.5T engines equipped in certain of its model year 2018-2021 Mazda6, 2021-2024 Mazda3 and CX-30, 2016-2023 CX-9, 2019-2024 CX-5, and 2022-2024 CX-50 vehicles were defective.ย
Cauller says the alleged engine defect causes the engine to leak coolant, which causes the engine to overheat and leads to โcatastrophic engine failure.โย
โBecause of the Engine Defect, Mazdaโs advertising about the safety and dependability of the Class Vehicles is untrue and materially misleading,โ the Mazda class action says.ย
Cauller wants to represent a class of South Carolina consumers who purchased or leased in the state a class vehicle with a SKYACTIV-G 2.5T engine.ย
Mazda admits existence of engine defect, class action claimsย
Mazda has admitted to the existence of the engine defect via a series of technical service bulletins, yet has failed to warn consumers, extend the vehiclesโ warranty, or issue a recall, the Mazda class action alleges.ย
โMazda has long known of the Engine Defect. It has amassed years of research, data, and Engine Defect warranty claims,โ the Mazda class action claims.ย
Cauller claims Mazda is guilty of unjust enrichment and fraudulent omission and violating Southย Carolinaโs Unfair Trade Practices Act and state codes regarding breach of express warranty and breach of implied warranty of merchantability.ย
The plaintiff demands a jury trial and requests declaratory and injunctive relief and an award of actual and statutory damages for himself and all class members.ย
A group of consumers filed a separate class action lawsuit against Mazda earlier this year over claims the automaker sold certain vehicles equipped with defective infotainment systems.

I recently purchased a 2013 cx9 grand touring and within 3 months of purchased Iโve already replaced the cooling fan assembly because my car started leaking coolant and running hot. First the a/c stopped working and I was told thatโs because the fans werenโt working. Now mind you I bought it pre-owned so I thought ok It is a 2013 model and previously owned.
I own a 2023 Mazda cx-50. Iโd like to be added to this lawsuit if possible.
I have a 2020 CX-5 Touring AWD and I recently drove to NC on the 23rd if August. The air conditioning had began to blow warm air. I went to Auto Zone to by Freon and discovered that I had no coolant in the reservoir. Iโd like to be included in this law suit if possible.
I just purchased a Certified pre-owned 2022 CX-30 2.5 turbo. I was not aware of this defect. It was not disclosed when I purchased this vehicle this past weekend 08/24/24. I would like to be added to your list.

Ohhh by the way im from settle washinhton
I live in Ontario Canada and have a 2024 CX 30 with that engine
How do I join the law suit
Purchased 2021 CX-9 Grand Touring and recently have had low engine oil level light come on after previous oil change that currently has around 4 thousand miles since oil change and checked level and had to add alittle over a quart of oil to engine, contacted dealer where we purchased vehicle and was told it was within the recent bulletin vehicles and setup appointment for repairs and inspection then when I called back to confirm appointment was told by service writer that my vehicle was not in the bulletin category VIN range and should bring in for them to add oil to it and see if it still loses oil which is crazy. If vehicle is losing oil between oil changes there is definitely a issue, I am a mechanic and this is not a normal event and Mazda should be ashamed of them selves for this and not taking care of the customers especially the ones like me whom have been long time customers of Mazda Motor Company.
This needs to include CX-9โs going back to 2007 and potentially other models as well but the internal water pump has been a headache for longer than this class action covers. My 2013 cx-9 had the catastrophic engine failure due to the water pump failing and I ended up leaving it at the shop three years ago after being told it would cost $8000 to replace the engine. Iโd like to be compensated for the loss of my vehicle as well, other than the water pump everything else was in perfect condition.
I just purchased a 2024 Mazda CX-5 last week. New off the lot.
Cx5 2019 had coolent leak
Head was replaced under extended warranty which i had purchased. Can I be included in class action ?
I have a 2016 Mazda cx5 can I get more information please
