Mazda class action lawsuit overview:ย
- Who: Plaintiff Matt Cauller filed a class action lawsuit against Mazda Motor of America Inc. d/b/a Mazda North American Operations and Mazda Motor Corporation.ย
- Why: Cauller claims Mazda knowingly sold certain vehicles with a dangerous engine defect.ย
- Where: The class action lawsuit was filed in California federal court.ย
A new class action lawsuit alleges that Mazda knowingly exposed the purchasers of hundreds of thousands of vehicles to a dangerous engine defect.ย
Plaintiff Matt Caullerโs class action lawsuit claims Mazda failed to disclose that its SKYACTIV-G 2.5T engines equipped in certain of its model year 2018-2021 Mazda6, 2021-2024 Mazda3 and CX-30, 2016-2023 CX-9, 2019-2024 CX-5, and 2022-2024 CX-50 vehicles were defective.ย
Cauller says the alleged engine defect causes the engine to leak coolant, which causes the engine to overheat and leads to โcatastrophic engine failure.โย
โBecause of the Engine Defect, Mazdaโs advertising about the safety and dependability of the Class Vehicles is untrue and materially misleading,โ the Mazda class action says.ย
Cauller wants to represent a class of South Carolina consumers who purchased or leased in the state a class vehicle with a SKYACTIV-G 2.5T engine.ย
Mazda admits existence of engine defect, class action claimsย
Mazda has admitted to the existence of the engine defect via a series of technical service bulletins, yet has failed to warn consumers, extend the vehiclesโ warranty, or issue a recall, the Mazda class action alleges.ย
โMazda has long known of the Engine Defect. It has amassed years of research, data, and Engine Defect warranty claims,โ the Mazda class action claims.ย
Cauller claims Mazda is guilty of unjust enrichment and fraudulent omission and violating Southย Carolinaโs Unfair Trade Practices Act and state codes regarding breach of express warranty and breach of implied warranty of merchantability.ย
The plaintiff demands a jury trial and requests declaratory and injunctive relief and an award of actual and statutory damages for himself and all class members.ย
A group of consumers filed a separate class action lawsuit against Mazda earlier this year over claims the automaker sold certain vehicles equipped with defective infotainment systems.

We purchased Mazda CX-5 Engine 2.5 Liter Turbo on 11/11/2022. We are experiencing the check engine light goes on for no reason, this has been going on for quite some time.
We have a 2019 CX-9 that we just brought in for this exact issue and weโre getting the whole engine replaced. Like itโs actively in the shop right now.
21โฒ Mazda 3 hatchback with the 2.5 non turbo. 23k miles and perfect.
Lots of boards will tell you the models with vinโs identifying the manufacturing being done In Japan, tend to have very few if any issues. However the models assembled in Mexico or the usa tend to have quite a bit of trouble across the board.
I purchased 2020 cx5
Kirby Hannan
I took the vehicle for a quick check since I got it on lease and after a short drive probably 60 kms or so the car jerks when coming close to a standstill like a signal. I try to break and car jerks. The dealership cannot recreate this issues and hence they donโt want to fix it. My car is 2024 CX-50 with 2.5t skyactiv turbo. Canada
I have purchased a 2010 Mazda Demio and is having the same issues.
We have a 2018 Mazda 6 and a 2020 CX30. Both have about 60000KM on them and we have not had any problems with either car. Both have been used a few times on 4000KM trips so they are not just driven around town. We live in Canada
I just purchased a 2024 CX 5
I have bought 2023 mazda cx-5. No issues so far except one of headlight was making weird noise which was replaced by the dealer.
I purchase a 2021 Mazda CX-5 in June of last year. It had been running a little hot after running awhile in hot weather. My friend was driving and suddenly we were in a ditch, engine off. It was a lotal loss due ti side air bags which mine smacked me so hard in the face, i have a bump now on my nose which bled for quite awhile. Anyways, i no longer have the car and the final mileage some how got bumped up to 99k but i cant drive 46k in 11 months. Anyways, if i had known, i would have bought a different car and i wouldnt be out the $15k i put down for the down payment.
