Mazda class action lawsuit overview:ย
- Who: Plaintiff Matt Cauller filed a class action lawsuit against Mazda Motor of America Inc. d/b/a Mazda North American Operations and Mazda Motor Corporation.ย
- Why: Cauller claims Mazda knowingly sold certain vehicles with a dangerous engine defect.ย
- Where: The class action lawsuit was filed in California federal court.ย
A new class action lawsuit alleges that Mazda knowingly exposed the purchasers of hundreds of thousands of vehicles to a dangerous engine defect.ย
Plaintiff Matt Caullerโs class action lawsuit claims Mazda failed to disclose that its SKYACTIV-G 2.5T engines equipped in certain of its model year 2018-2021 Mazda6, 2021-2024 Mazda3 and CX-30, 2016-2023 CX-9, 2019-2024 CX-5, and 2022-2024 CX-50 vehicles were defective.ย
Cauller says the alleged engine defect causes the engine to leak coolant, which causes the engine to overheat and leads to โcatastrophic engine failure.โย
โBecause of the Engine Defect, Mazdaโs advertising about the safety and dependability of the Class Vehicles is untrue and materially misleading,โ the Mazda class action says.ย
Cauller wants to represent a class of South Carolina consumers who purchased or leased in the state a class vehicle with a SKYACTIV-G 2.5T engine.ย
Mazda admits existence of engine defect, class action claimsย
Mazda has admitted to the existence of the engine defect via a series of technical service bulletins, yet has failed to warn consumers, extend the vehiclesโ warranty, or issue a recall, the Mazda class action alleges.ย
โMazda has long known of the Engine Defect. It has amassed years of research, data, and Engine Defect warranty claims,โ the Mazda class action claims.ย
Cauller claims Mazda is guilty of unjust enrichment and fraudulent omission and violating Southย Carolinaโs Unfair Trade Practices Act and state codes regarding breach of express warranty and breach of implied warranty of merchantability.ย
The plaintiff demands a jury trial and requests declaratory and injunctive relief and an award of actual and statutory damages for himself and all class members.ย
A group of consumers filed a separate class action lawsuit against Mazda earlier this year over claims the automaker sold certain vehicles equipped with defective infotainment systems.

520 thoughts onMazda class action claims thousands of vehicles have engine defect
I have a 2017 cx-9 that this exact thing happened to me back in Dec 2023. Luckily my extended warranties covered it but still very concerned as my car only had 40k miles on it! They only repaired that part and really a new engine is what needs to happened but I canโt afford to pay 12k for that. Especially knowing that Mazda has seen this problem over and over again they should have done a recall on all years of vehicles already. The dealership said things a โvery known issueโ.
We purchased a 2022 mazda cx9 in pa waiting to see what happens
I have a 2019 CX5. How do I find out if Iโm on the list?
We had this issue with our 2021 CX-5 GT; in the middle of winter we noticed our car wasnโt warming up well. After a while, the โcheck engineโ light was on (this happened this last winter โ23/24); went to the dealer and they had to remove the WHOLE ENGINE (which of course that probably means that the car resale value would be less) in order to get to the coolant part and change it. We didnโt pay anything โ thankfully โ as the car was still under the warranteeโฆ but I think it could have been thousands to change. This is horrible. I trusted Mazda esp with all those reliability and safety promises all over the internetโฆ oh, and with regards to the infotainment system, my iPhone would not connect anymore (so canโt use it for maps โ only for audio through Bluetooth) my husband does not have that issue with his android but now itโs disconnecting every now and then.
I have a 2021 CX-5 Skyactiv-G 2.5L Turbo Engine with only 16,000 miles but am concerned with this defect.
I just purchased a 24 Mazda CX5, itโs on the list.
I had a 2018 Mazda 6 for 2 years. It was problem after problem. I was able to trade it out in 2021. The engine had major mechanical issues. I was constantly renting a car and taking days off to deal with the nonsense as the shop kept stringing it along. It spent half the time I owned it in the shop.
Mazda cx-9 2023.
Purchased a CX30 March of 2024
No known problem yet. Only 1800 miles on the vehicle. Will ask the dealer as they keep telling me it is due for service.
Iโll have to look into this issue. I have the 2021 2.5 with turbo. Iโve been going back and forth with the local Mazda dealer over the Valve Stem Seal Settlement and what it takes to get my car fixed.
I have a 2021 Mazda 6 turbo. I have to request an oil consumption test but my local ford dealer is inundated with fleet customers and I can get my car in the shop.
Compre una CX5 en junio 2024 y desconocia.
