Mazda class action lawsuit overview:ย
- Who: Plaintiff Matt Cauller filed a class action lawsuit against Mazda Motor of America Inc. d/b/a Mazda North American Operations and Mazda Motor Corporation.ย
- Why: Cauller claims Mazda knowingly sold certain vehicles with a dangerous engine defect.ย
- Where: The class action lawsuit was filed in California federal court.ย
A new class action lawsuit alleges that Mazda knowingly exposed the purchasers of hundreds of thousands of vehicles to a dangerous engine defect.ย
Plaintiff Matt Caullerโs class action lawsuit claims Mazda failed to disclose that its SKYACTIV-G 2.5T engines equipped in certain of its model year 2018-2021 Mazda6, 2021-2024 Mazda3 and CX-30, 2016-2023 CX-9, 2019-2024 CX-5, and 2022-2024 CX-50 vehicles were defective.ย
Cauller says the alleged engine defect causes the engine to leak coolant, which causes the engine to overheat and leads to โcatastrophic engine failure.โย
โBecause of the Engine Defect, Mazdaโs advertising about the safety and dependability of the Class Vehicles is untrue and materially misleading,โ the Mazda class action says.ย
Cauller wants to represent a class of South Carolina consumers who purchased or leased in the state a class vehicle with a SKYACTIV-G 2.5T engine.ย
Mazda admits existence of engine defect, class action claimsย
Mazda has admitted to the existence of the engine defect via a series of technical service bulletins, yet has failed to warn consumers, extend the vehiclesโ warranty, or issue a recall, the Mazda class action alleges.ย
โMazda has long known of the Engine Defect. It has amassed years of research, data, and Engine Defect warranty claims,โ the Mazda class action claims.ย
Cauller claims Mazda is guilty of unjust enrichment and fraudulent omission and violating Southย Carolinaโs Unfair Trade Practices Act and state codes regarding breach of express warranty and breach of implied warranty of merchantability.ย
The plaintiff demands a jury trial and requests declaratory and injunctive relief and an award of actual and statutory damages for himself and all class members.ย
A group of consumers filed a separate class action lawsuit against Mazda earlier this year over claims the automaker sold certain vehicles equipped with defective infotainment systems.

I bought a used CX 5
I purchased a 2021 CX-5 Carbon with a 2.5L Turbo back in May. Seeing my model and year on the list is definitely concerning as I just started making payments. Since Iโm still in the early phases of ownership, Iโd very much like to know how all this applies to me.
2018 Mazda CX-9, I always smell the engine like itโs overheating and every time I take it to Mazda they tell me itโs nothingโฆ.. Theyโve already had to replace a blown head and some kind of chip that affects all the sensors which made my car go in to error mode. They had my car for over 5 months and randomly the car still goes haywire.
I do have Mazda CX5 2023. If this is true they must be put to justice and replace all that is faulty with new one for free.
I just purchased a 2024 CX-50 2.5T in February. This information is very concerning as the vehicle was very expensive for them to have known about this issue for so long. If this information is true, I would most certainly like to be involved in this class action.
I just bought a 2024 cx 5 skyactive model
I own a 2022 CX5. I have many issues with my car. About a year ago I left it running for a few minutes to bring up my groceries and the car died. Also took it to deal 3 times for a jerking feeling when you drive. They claimed nothing is wrong with the engine.
I purchased a 2021 Mazda 6 10 months ago and I wasnโt aware of the engine defect. How do I add my name to the class action suit please?
I have a Mazda CX-30 2023. Iโm nervous about my engine. Iโd like to be a part of the lawsuit
I have a 2022 mazda 3 turbo I purchased when it was new. Should I be concerned? What has been some of the severe issues?
