ford steering wheelA class action lawsuit claims that Ford F-150 trucks, model years 2015 to 2019, have defective steering systems which causes the wheel to pull to the left or the right, leaving the driver to temporarily lose control.

The Ford F-150 class action lawsuit was filed by Mark Lincoln who says that he noticed the steering problem upon purchasing a 2016 vehicle, and was told that he could bring it back for an alignment which would fix the problem.

Allegedly, Lincoln bought his vehicle back for an alignment on July 9, 2018, but that did not fix the problem. Additionally, he says that he had his tires rebalanced, but that did not solve the problem.

The Ford steering alignment class action goes on to state that after he experienced multiple problems with his 2016 Ford F-150, including “erratic steering and pulling,” Lincoln traded his 2016 vehicle in and purchased a 2017 Ford F-150 vehicle.

He says that he had to pay a $5,000 adjustment for the 2017  vehicle, which had around 27,188 miles on the odometer on the date of purchase.

The Ford F-150 class action lawsuit claims that when Lincoln purchased the 2017 vehicle, he reviewed the sticker that was placed on the window of the vehicle advertising the vehicle’s features, including equipment, warranty, and crash test ratings.

Allegedly, Lincoln relied on the advertisements on the sticker to make his purchasing decision, noting that the sticker did not disclose that the vehicle suffered from any defects.

According to Lincoln, when he drove the vehicle home, he noticed that it pulled and drifted in both directions. He says that Ford would do a re-alignment free of charge, but that the alignment did not correct the erratic steering.

In the fall, Lincoln complained again about the erratic steering, at which point Ford adjusted the alignment and steering gear assembly, and replaced the shaft seal. However, the problem allegedly persisted.

Lincoln claims that he brought both trucks in for service on multiple occasions but Ford failed to fix the problem. He says that he has faced financial injury trying to fix the problem, including incurring costs related to purchasing his new vehicle, and including lost wages because he had to miss work to try to deal with the vehicle problems.

He says that he and many other customers experienced the steering defect, and were financially injured because of it. Lincoln seeks damages on behalf of himself and all other similarly affected customers.

I’ve had my 2018 F150 XLT Sport with 42k miles for about a year and half now. Numerous trips for realignments and still drifts left or right. It’s a constant fight to keep the truck driving straight which makes long drives near impossible and exhausting. This is our family vehicle and it makes me uneasy.

I have taken my 2017 F150 with 115k to Ford twice in the last two months. Truck steering is loose and hard to control pulls to the left and right. Steering sometimes makes a clicking or grinding sound turning left. Sounds and feels like it’s the steering shaft linkage. Both times Ford told me there wasn’t nothing wrong with my truck steering. At this point I’m scared to drive my truck at any speed.

  5. Clifford Sykes says:

My steering wheel began loosening until I lost control and hit a small pile of gravel mixed with concrete that was partially in the curb lane which cause me to turn the steering a little bit but the truck wondered over causing me to hit that heap of gravel. Was quite a blow causing leakage in the shock which not covered 2018 ford f150 lx with only 39000 miles The bolt in the steering was so loose the dealer told me that the wheel was about to fall off and would had been in a heap of trouble. (Ford tough) can’t be tough if you can’t steer Flakey truck

I recently purchased (December 2022) a 2016 Ford F150 XLT with 64, 000 miles. I am the second owner. I’ve noticed there is a problem with the steering at high speeds. The truck seems to drift to the left and right, like there is play in the steering when in the neutral position. Impossible to get it to track in a straight line. I constantly seem to be correcting. Reading these posts, it seems I am one of many experiencing problems with their F150’s steering. Given how pervasive the problem seems to be and how Ford has apparently chosen to ignore it, I suspect they are waiting until someone is killed and forced to pay out millions before they take it on. Money talks and right now we’re just squeaky wheels. Time to contact 60 Minutes.

  10. Ben says:

Same story. My rack and pinion failed while in a turn on my 2017 f150 with 39000 miles. I’ve been waiting since October for a replacement with no eta.
