ford steering wheelA class action lawsuit claims that Ford F-150 trucks, model years 2015 to 2019, have defective steering systems which causes the wheel to pull to the left or the right, leaving the driver to temporarily lose control.

The Ford F-150 class action lawsuit was filed by Mark Lincoln who says that he noticed the steering problem upon purchasing a 2016 vehicle, and was told that he could bring it back for an alignment which would fix the problem.

Allegedly, Lincoln bought his vehicle back for an alignment on July 9, 2018, but that did not fix the problem. Additionally, he says that he had his tires rebalanced, but that did not solve the problem.

The Ford steering alignment class action goes on to state that after he experienced multiple problems with his 2016 Ford F-150, including “erratic steering and pulling,” Lincoln traded his 2016 vehicle in and purchased a 2017 Ford F-150 vehicle.

He says that he had to pay a $5,000 adjustment for the 2017  vehicle, which had around 27,188 miles on the odometer on the date of purchase.

The Ford F-150 class action lawsuit claims that when Lincoln purchased the 2017 vehicle, he reviewed the sticker that was placed on the window of the vehicle advertising the vehicle’s features, including equipment, warranty, and crash test ratings.

Allegedly, Lincoln relied on the advertisements on the sticker to make his purchasing decision, noting that the sticker did not disclose that the vehicle suffered from any defects.

According to Lincoln, when he drove the vehicle home, he noticed that it pulled and drifted in both directions. He says that Ford would do a re-alignment free of charge, but that the alignment did not correct the erratic steering.

In the fall, Lincoln complained again about the erratic steering, at which point Ford adjusted the alignment and steering gear assembly, and replaced the shaft seal. However, the problem allegedly persisted.

Lincoln claims that he brought both trucks in for service on multiple occasions but Ford failed to fix the problem. He says that he has faced financial injury trying to fix the problem, including incurring costs related to purchasing his new vehicle, and including lost wages because he had to miss work to try to deal with the vehicle problems.

He says that he and many other customers experienced the steering defect, and were financially injured because of it. Lincoln seeks damages on behalf of himself and all other similarly affected customers.

My 2017 F 150 needs a new steering rack. Ford said they have had trucks sitting at the dealership for months that need the same part but it’s backordered and they don’t know when they will be able to fix them. I’ve been told my truck isn’t safe to drive with no fix date in site.

My 2017 f150 electronic steering went out in December 2022 it’s almost February and still no update when the part would be available. Before the steering went out i thought i was having an issue with the alignment. I now know it was the steering all along. There should be a recall.

2021 ford 150, 10,400. Miles has a terrible sway issue. Hard to control drifts from side to side like your driving in a wind tunnel. I’ve had it back to the dealer about 2000 miles ago and they drove it and checked the steering. They said it was fine. It continues to get worse with time and added mileage. I am afraid for my safety and my passengers safety.

  4. Chad Meyers says:

My 2017 F150 has a steering fault failure that occurred while driving. Completely lost ability to safely turn while in motion. Very unsafe situation and something needs to be done by Ford to correct this issue. Checked to see if there was a recall on the EPS and there was not.

Steering intermittently locks or stiffens when turning gradually left.

2017 F150 xlt. Have been struggling for 3 months to replace the steering rack. FORD will apparently not allow an aftermarket to be programmed but Ford has a back ordered with no delivery date in availability yet. My steering went out while I was driving my granddaughter and her friend to the mall. I had to jerk the wheel to get out of on coming traffic. Could have been much worse than the time and money I am out so far

My 2012 platinum has been neglected by Carmax and the fact that when I bought the truck, I heard some noises and I did a thorough check off the basics, I had asked them to take care of these concerns. They wouldn’t even change the oil. I had oil in my air filter that they told me was engine cleaning solution. I downloaded the PDF for the 120 point inspection, and I found over 9 things on it that there is no way possible anybody checked ever. Fast forward 3 months and 4 trips back to Camax service and two newly requested technicians later, I get a voicemail saying they can confirm, after arguing with me for 3 months literally, that my truck did infact have a vacuum pump and it had failed. I told them that 3 months ago when looked up the problem online. They replaced it, with a 40 amp fuse and of course the brakes , pads and rotors for the 3rd time in 3 months. I got the truck back and now heard a clicking when turning to I the left randomly. I took video of this. Bright the truck back to Camax and they said they checked the pad and rotors and they looked good, it still squeaks to this day😑. Now the reason for this comment, I recently had ten codes going off in my truck, plus the power steering fault, check brake system , and service adv trac lights. I did my research and having a failed vacuum pump, also know as a BRAKE BOOSTER, not properly working especially for 3 months can directly affect the entire abs system not just the pads and rotors, but as well as the power steering rack and pinon fault. I am beyond mad because the neglect and sheer dismissal of anything I had to say from Carmax, and of course now my warranty is up and they are trying to say nothing they did caused what’s going in with my truck. I want justice, I still owe 30k on this truck and I believe I should be compensated for the time and stress and neglect and sheer stupidity that has been bestowed upon me. Also last thing, I picked my truck up from Carmax yesterday after they deemed it drivable and couldn’t get me a loaner vehicle, when the girl that went to move it said omg I can even turn this thing, and that it only goes 40 right now because of the electronic fuel pump which has failed and now is running lean on both banks 1 and 2, somebody please help me with this. They need to pay and also get me a new truck. I can’t believe it still, this was a birthday present to myself this year and I actually spent my birthday down at the dealership because the day before the kid helping me could not figure out what day of the week it was let alone the process of selling a car.

2016 Ford F150 with 101K miles traveling home one night the truck started to pull hard for no reason to the right. When correcting to get back to center it would pull hard the other direction for no reason. Very scary and dangerous 60 miles to get home. Once home upon inspection heard loud noise coming from the steering rack and pinion when turning the wheels, steering then went completely out with an error “Steering assist fault”. Having towed 70 miles to the nearest dealership to have repaired. Really disappointing and very dangerous. Calling Ford this morning to report the situation and see if they will assist in the repair but not optimistic. Sadley our Ford extended warrant just expired a few thousand miles ago.

    2018 f150 3.5 ecoboost limited 17k miles
Steering wheel will pull to the left and right while driving making it hazardous to drive.
Brought truck to ford dealership and had the alignment checked, tires checked, electrical system checked, and anything else they looked into. lane keep assist is turned off so that is not the issue.

  10. James McCrory says:

My 2018 F150 has 50K miles on it and Im having steering issues as well. Coming away from a 4-way stop at about 15mph my steering turned right on me. If I had not had a good grip on my steering wheel to counter act what the truck was doing on its own I would have made a right hand turn into a tree along the street. Im also experiencing pulling hard to the right while driving along straight roads. I have had multiple alignments done as well as changes of brands of tires. Brakes have been checked for dragging but nothing appears mechanically wrong. I want to join the law suit as well.

    1. Jennifer thoresen says:

Ive gone through 3 steering racks. Mine is a f-150 2013. Had major problems with brakes, and since i ourchased back in 2015 the truck would downshift and feel like back end of truck was left behind. Spent well over 5-8 thousand in repairs.
