ford steering wheelA class action lawsuit claims that Ford F-150 trucks, model years 2015 to 2019, have defective steering systems which causes the wheel to pull to the left or the right, leaving the driver to temporarily lose control.

The Ford F-150 class action lawsuit was filed by Mark Lincoln who says that he noticed the steering problem upon purchasing a 2016 vehicle, and was told that he could bring it back for an alignment which would fix the problem.

Allegedly, Lincoln bought his vehicle back for an alignment on July 9, 2018, but that did not fix the problem. Additionally, he says that he had his tires rebalanced, but that did not solve the problem.

The Ford steering alignment class action goes on to state that after he experienced multiple problems with his 2016 Ford F-150, including “erratic steering and pulling,” Lincoln traded his 2016 vehicle in and purchased a 2017 Ford F-150 vehicle.

He says that he had to pay a $5,000 adjustment for the 2017  vehicle, which had around 27,188 miles on the odometer on the date of purchase.

The Ford F-150 class action lawsuit claims that when Lincoln purchased the 2017 vehicle, he reviewed the sticker that was placed on the window of the vehicle advertising the vehicle’s features, including equipment, warranty, and crash test ratings.

Allegedly, Lincoln relied on the advertisements on the sticker to make his purchasing decision, noting that the sticker did not disclose that the vehicle suffered from any defects.

According to Lincoln, when he drove the vehicle home, he noticed that it pulled and drifted in both directions. He says that Ford would do a re-alignment free of charge, but that the alignment did not correct the erratic steering.

In the fall, Lincoln complained again about the erratic steering, at which point Ford adjusted the alignment and steering gear assembly, and replaced the shaft seal. However, the problem allegedly persisted.

Lincoln claims that he brought both trucks in for service on multiple occasions but Ford failed to fix the problem. He says that he has faced financial injury trying to fix the problem, including incurring costs related to purchasing his new vehicle, and including lost wages because he had to miss work to try to deal with the vehicle problems.

He says that he and many other customers experienced the steering defect, and were financially injured because of it. Lincoln seeks damages on behalf of himself and all other similarly affected customers.

I bought my 2016 F150 new have done all scheduled maintenance with the dealership. It has 55k miles on it. I noticed that the steering was catching making it difficult to control, the following day lost all steering and had it towed to the dealership. My 2015 f 150 truck seems like when you turn the wheel it catches . But I haven’t found any recall from ford

I have a 2017 F150. Steering issue first appeared when the truck was 1 week old. Took it back to dealer, they couldn’t find anything. It has done this intermittently ever since, but never long enough to get it checked.
At various speeds, the wheel gets hard to turn as if something is holding back on it. If it’s doing it while turning a corner, it will turn, but jerkily. It doesn’t return to straight as you come out of the turn, I have to turn it back to straight. At highway speeds, it feels as if something is holding the steering wheel when I try to make slight corrections or change lanes.
I have noticed an irregular tapping sound from under the hood during low-speed occurrences. Truck now has 66k on it and still does it randomly.

2019 Ford F-150 4 X 4 power steering failed while driving down the road ( 8/13/2022 ) which caused my 19 year old son to loose control an run off the road and hit a tree. Thankfully he escaped injury. Truck has 80,000 miles on it. Called my local ford dealer an they state there are no recalls on the steering . It appears alot of people are having issues. Now i have a wrecked truck with no help from Ford in getting it repaired.

  9. HENRY A. MLCAK says:

My 2015 F-150’s steering assist went out today at 73,866 miles. Luckly I was on a rural country road when it went out, and not in heavy traffic. Very hard to turn steering wheel. Also cruise control went out at the same time.

  10. Preston Farmer says:

2016 power steering just out of nowhere failed

    1. Mark Simbe says:

2016 f 150 steering seems to lockup on occasion.

      1. Mark Deemer says:

2015 Ford F-150 4×2 Platinum. Mine does the same thing, fine one day and stuck off and on the next. Did you get it figured out? I took it in previously and they couldn’t find anything wrong. Yesterday felt like I was going to crash, went to take it in this morning and it works perfectly again for now but it has been doing this for months if not years. 2015
