ford steering wheelA class action lawsuit claims that Ford F-150 trucks, model years 2015 to 2019, have defective steering systems which causes the wheel to pull to the left or the right, leaving the driver to temporarily lose control.

The Ford F-150 class action lawsuit was filed by Mark Lincoln who says that he noticed the steering problem upon purchasing a 2016 vehicle, and was told that he could bring it back for an alignment which would fix the problem.

Allegedly, Lincoln bought his vehicle back for an alignment on July 9, 2018, but that did not fix the problem. Additionally, he says that he had his tires rebalanced, but that did not solve the problem.

The Ford steering alignment class action goes on to state that after he experienced multiple problems with his 2016 Ford F-150, including “erratic steering and pulling,” Lincoln traded his 2016 vehicle in and purchased a 2017 Ford F-150 vehicle.

He says that he had to pay a $5,000 adjustment for the 2017  vehicle, which had around 27,188 miles on the odometer on the date of purchase.

The Ford F-150 class action lawsuit claims that when Lincoln purchased the 2017 vehicle, he reviewed the sticker that was placed on the window of the vehicle advertising the vehicle’s features, including equipment, warranty, and crash test ratings.

Allegedly, Lincoln relied on the advertisements on the sticker to make his purchasing decision, noting that the sticker did not disclose that the vehicle suffered from any defects.

According to Lincoln, when he drove the vehicle home, he noticed that it pulled and drifted in both directions. He says that Ford would do a re-alignment free of charge, but that the alignment did not correct the erratic steering.

In the fall, Lincoln complained again about the erratic steering, at which point Ford adjusted the alignment and steering gear assembly, and replaced the shaft seal. However, the problem allegedly persisted.

Lincoln claims that he brought both trucks in for service on multiple occasions but Ford failed to fix the problem. He says that he has faced financial injury trying to fix the problem, including incurring costs related to purchasing his new vehicle, and including lost wages because he had to miss work to try to deal with the vehicle problems.

He says that he and many other customers experienced the steering defect, and were financially injured because of it. Lincoln seeks damages on behalf of himself and all other similarly affected customers.

2017 Ford F-150 XLT. Steering Gear started making a clicking noise when turning. 5 minutes later Steering Wheel locked completely thankfully I had just pulled in my drive way. Ford and Ford dealerships won’t cover anything and part is unavailable nation wide and everyone refuses to help. `I depend on the truck for work and daily chores because of where I live and It’s my only means of transportation. Because of this part defect and shortage, I’m now out of a job and transportation.
I can even do the repair myself but still no one wants or is able to provide me with the Steering Gear, and aftermarket parts are not programable to the vehicle. Can anyone help. If there is a law suit I’m in. First and last time using Ford, It’s unrealistic how incompetent and careless they are. If I was driving and the steering locked like it did in my drive way, I would have probably had a terrible accident.

Note: Truck is meticulously maintained with records, and is at 83,000 Mi

I bought a 2016 f-150 XLT V6 with 124,000 miles on it a week ago. I love the pickup and it is like brand new. However, the first time I drove it down the highway, I noticed something didn’t feel right. If I turned the wheel, even just slightly, it would jerk back and forth like I was losing control. I took it back to the dealership and they told me which mechanics to take it to. They drove it and felt the same thing I did. They put it on the hoist and said they checked everything and all was in check. They told me that it was just the difference between electric power steering and hydraulic power steering. I am not convinced. Is this vehicle safe?

    2017 Ford F-150 with 50k miles
This just happened to me as I was pulling out of my driveway. My wheel suddenly started jerking hard left then hard right and now it will barely move. I’m so happy I was still in my driveway as this could be very dangerous if I were on a main road. After this happened the steering assist fault and lane assist light came on. Truck was driving perfectly fine a few hours before. Now I am about to call a tow truck. This should be recalled!

Power steering rack and pinion is ntje problem
No less than 700 for the part reman

  4. David says:

I have 1 2015 King Ranch. Very erratic steering at times. Of course, I can’t make it happen when I bring it to the mechanic. This clearly a recall issue with all these reports of the same problem.

  5. Ty Grant says:

Is there still class action going for the F150 2019 rack and pinion breaking?

  6. Joel Poffenberger says:

I have a 2018 F150 I just purchased. Noticed the steering wheel would not stay straight when driving. Sometimes to the left and sometimes to the right. I put brand new premium tires on, had the alignment done, and still does it.

    1. Ty Grant says:

Today I was driving 2019 F150 20,000 miles going about 30 mph front end violently starting shaking and felt like right front wheel jumping up and down that caused truck to veer to the right I had no control . Scary as hell, got out both front wheels pointed in. Tow truck guy think rack and pinion broke I am stunned that could happen on a low mileage pickup . As anyone heard of such a thing? This has always been babied I just don’t get it

  7. LEE D. SETSER says:

con’t I have new tires, front end alignment, tire pressure on all four good, etc. etc.

  8. LEE D. SETSER says:

I have a 2016 f150 and have been ticketed for swaying. My f150 wonders left, and right especially when going over 60 mph on straight hwy driving. i have to really concentrate and work hard to keep my truck straight, otherwise risk getting pulled over for swaying in and out of my lane, like a drunk.

    1. Thomas Eichstaedt says:

My 2017 F150 Lariat pulls left and right. The crown of the road has an affect on it. It’s a constant fight to keep it straight.

  9. Vin Costanzo says:

I purchased a used 2018 Ford F 150 4×4, crew, Lariat in Jan 2022 with 27,800. Have been having issues with “hard steering left – right” mainly when “auto engine shut down” is in active mode. Reported issue with NTHSB. Had onboard PCM scanned and found code U 3003-68 – Power Steering Rack issue. Have to find out if this is covered on the extended warrantee.

  10. Jerry Gibson says:

My 2017 F-150 with 58000 miles just locked up in a parking lot. I had it towed to my mechanic and the solution was top rfe[place the rack and pinion assembly. I called the local dealers and they both said this wasn’t covered under any warranty even though the service man said they have had several of these. Also. they had to order and don’t knowq when it will be available so i am without my truck for who knows how long.
