ford steering wheelA class action lawsuit claims that Ford F-150 trucks, model years 2015 to 2019, have defective steering systems which causes the wheel to pull to the left or the right, leaving the driver to temporarily lose control.

The Ford F-150 class action lawsuit was filed by Mark Lincoln who says that he noticed the steering problem upon purchasing a 2016 vehicle, and was told that he could bring it back for an alignment which would fix the problem.

Allegedly, Lincoln bought his vehicle back for an alignment on July 9, 2018, but that did not fix the problem. Additionally, he says that he had his tires rebalanced, but that did not solve the problem.

The Ford steering alignment class action goes on to state that after he experienced multiple problems with his 2016 Ford F-150, including “erratic steering and pulling,” Lincoln traded his 2016 vehicle in and purchased a 2017 Ford F-150 vehicle.

He says that he had to pay a $5,000 adjustment for the 2017  vehicle, which had around 27,188 miles on the odometer on the date of purchase.

The Ford F-150 class action lawsuit claims that when Lincoln purchased the 2017 vehicle, he reviewed the sticker that was placed on the window of the vehicle advertising the vehicle’s features, including equipment, warranty, and crash test ratings.

Allegedly, Lincoln relied on the advertisements on the sticker to make his purchasing decision, noting that the sticker did not disclose that the vehicle suffered from any defects.

According to Lincoln, when he drove the vehicle home, he noticed that it pulled and drifted in both directions. He says that Ford would do a re-alignment free of charge, but that the alignment did not correct the erratic steering.

In the fall, Lincoln complained again about the erratic steering, at which point Ford adjusted the alignment and steering gear assembly, and replaced the shaft seal. However, the problem allegedly persisted.

Lincoln claims that he brought both trucks in for service on multiple occasions but Ford failed to fix the problem. He says that he has faced financial injury trying to fix the problem, including incurring costs related to purchasing his new vehicle, and including lost wages because he had to miss work to try to deal with the vehicle problems.

He says that he and many other customers experienced the steering defect, and were financially injured because of it. Lincoln seeks damages on behalf of himself and all other similarly affected customers.

No F-150, but I have a 2020 Ford Ranger XLT. Bought it certified almost exactly a year ago with just under 3k miles. I now have 49.7k. 90% highway miles for work. This passed Sunday was leaving home and the dash lights up with pre collision assist not available, service advance trac, steering assist fault, hill start assist not available, and then all of the power steering goes completely out. There has been no issues at all with the truck prior. I was able to drive it to the dealer following day and then the next day they called back. Service tells me they thought it could be a sensor and reset everything but nothing came back. They then say I need an all new rack and pinion for $3100 and unfortunately my 48k mile warranty is up since I’m at 49.7k. Seriously, a new rack and pinion for a 2020 truck. Any advice or anybody heard of anything like this?

I have since learned that the power steering assist module is part of the steering column. Not replaceable as a single part. They have to replace the whole assembly. They no longer have hydraulic power steering-it is all computerized. This part is back ordered. No idea when they will get it in to do repair. I took the Truck to the used dealer (on August 27, 2021) I had bought it from and they took it to the local ford dealer. Tomorrow will be 3 weeks without my new used 2016 F 150. I am very disappointed in Ford and right now would prefer a 1975 model! I would like an estimate on how long I will be without my truck.

Same issue. I have 2016 f150 with 53000 miles had to replace steering gear which is one complete unit. Dealer says it’ll cost $2600

I have the same issue with my 2016 ford f150 at 92,000 miles. the steering is catching and not coming back. I have to bring the steering wheel back myself. I will have to spend $1500 to replace the rack and pinion

I have a 2017 f150 that the steering went out at 65000 mi. I have never felt comfortable pulling a trailer no mater empty or loaded as the truck feels unstable at highway speeds. The steering feels very light and I dislike it to the point I’m ready to sell it, very stressful to drive. I have lotts of experience pulling trailers and this truck is the most uncomfortable to pull with.

Same experiences here. 2017 F150 SuperCrew Sport with a dealership level kit.

  5. George Dewey says:

Steering assist, advance track, hill assist, cruise control all on the blink. Ford tells me I need a wiring harness. Quoted $1500 and that’s without the steering arm. I feel like they are covering up a defect. Already at 130000 so I have no redress.

  6. Michel Fennessy says:

Same here. 2017 f-150. Drifting steering.

  7. Rob Jewett says:

My 2016 150 is having the same steering issues. I keep checking tore pressure and my front end but can’t see anything wronh

  8. Mary Hammock says:

I just bought a used 2016 f150 4×4. I’ve had it about a week. I backed out of the driveway into the road and when I started to turn steering wheel it started jerking and was almost impossible to turn.
It did it a few more times on the way to my daughters house and after a couple of miles it chimed and flashed the steering assist fault. If it had done that at 55mph, it might have caused me to wreck!
I was just searching for a possible cause and repair solution when I found this.

  9. PAUL V BENNETT says:

Hey Jerry, yes, tell them you feel like you’re doing to die, especially on the highway around corners. It’s sad, I’m almost getting good at it.

  10. Craig Stanfield says:

2019 rcsb 2wd f150. slight pull to left intermittently. only to left. aligned and checked at dealer. no codes. 34,000 miles
