ford steering wheelA class action lawsuit claims that Ford F-150 trucks, model years 2015 to 2019, have defective steering systems which causes the wheel to pull to the left or the right, leaving the driver to temporarily lose control.

The Ford F-150 class action lawsuit was filed by Mark Lincoln who says that he noticed the steering problem upon purchasing a 2016 vehicle, and was told that he could bring it back for an alignment which would fix the problem.

Allegedly, Lincoln bought his vehicle back for an alignment on July 9, 2018, but that did not fix the problem. Additionally, he says that he had his tires rebalanced, but that did not solve the problem.

The Ford steering alignment class action goes on to state that after he experienced multiple problems with his 2016 Ford F-150, including “erratic steering and pulling,” Lincoln traded his 2016 vehicle in and purchased a 2017 Ford F-150 vehicle.

He says that he had to pay a $5,000 adjustment for the 2017  vehicle, which had around 27,188 miles on the odometer on the date of purchase.

The Ford F-150 class action lawsuit claims that when Lincoln purchased the 2017 vehicle, he reviewed the sticker that was placed on the window of the vehicle advertising the vehicle’s features, including equipment, warranty, and crash test ratings.

Allegedly, Lincoln relied on the advertisements on the sticker to make his purchasing decision, noting that the sticker did not disclose that the vehicle suffered from any defects.

According to Lincoln, when he drove the vehicle home, he noticed that it pulled and drifted in both directions. He says that Ford would do a re-alignment free of charge, but that the alignment did not correct the erratic steering.

In the fall, Lincoln complained again about the erratic steering, at which point Ford adjusted the alignment and steering gear assembly, and replaced the shaft seal. However, the problem allegedly persisted.

Lincoln claims that he brought both trucks in for service on multiple occasions but Ford failed to fix the problem. He says that he has faced financial injury trying to fix the problem, including incurring costs related to purchasing his new vehicle, and including lost wages because he had to miss work to try to deal with the vehicle problems.

He says that he and many other customers experienced the steering defect, and were financially injured because of it. Lincoln seeks damages on behalf of himself and all other similarly affected customers.

2018 xlt 4×4 with 39k, I’ve noticed the same strange steering behaviors. It’s as if the truck is deciding things on it’s own!

Same here I have a 2019. I kept thinking the bed was sliding back and forth. And highway corners, like skating on ice but on dry road.

Same on my 2016. 93k miles. I rely on U-turns every day, and i’ve noticed it’s worse at slow speeds at takeoff. I thought being more gentle on the accelerator would be a fix, but i’ve found that gunning it actually straightens it out. Too bad it’s extremely impractical and dangerous.

  3. Dean Tarasoff says:

Have a 2016 f150 54,000 miles. On 6/28 driving slow to make a 90deg right turn my steering wheel felt almost loose. Suddenly I couldn’t steer and made a 45 deg turn into an on coming turn lane I couldn’t turn the wheel when traffic cleared i pulled forward across lanes over a curb to get out of the street. I called a wrecker and had truck taken to the nearest Ford dealership after 3 days of waiting I received a call and found out that my steering system is electric and that it would cost approximately $2100. To fix it. My truck was totally out of control.

Same with my son-in-laws truck just started happening recently. Intermittently, when turning, it keeps on turning and will not let him have control of the steering. This is VERY DANGEROUS! Tire Dealer told him they have seen this before and the person had to “have the whole front end replaced” to fix it. Local dealer won’t even make him an appointment until 9 days away!!! Trying to find someone who can fix it sooner.

I have a 2018 F-150 FX4 with the same problems. About a month ago I had picked up my truck from the dealer for a different service issue. When I drove the truck out of the lot the steering wheel was pulling to the right about 15-20 degrees even when going strait on a flat street. Over the next few weeks I even checked the tire pressure 3 different times. The steering wheel 90% of the time pulls to the right but sometimes goes to the left. It takes a little bit of pressure to keep it centered. It seems to do it more at lower speeds (15-35mph) however it still pulls to the right and sometimes left at interstate speeds. If you hard steer it in a direction it sometimes stays in that direction with the steering wheel being somewhat centered. The dealership has had my truck for two full days. They did a alignment check at it checked good. They returned it to me and it still does the same thing. They claimed they hooked it up to the computers and never got any codes. Others have driven my truck and have noticed the same things of it driving it’s own path. I have even driven it on the opposite side of the road to see if it will correct and it doesn’t. Also have over serviced the right tires to 40-42psi to see if it will correct the steering………and it still pulls right. Not a fan of the electric steering!!!!

  8. Jim Crowder says:

Just had my alignment checked and no issues on my 2018 F150. Even though I have an extended warranty it might cost me additional money for them to really dig into this issue although they can’t tell me what the next steps will entail. I was happy to discover others that we’re having the same issues as mine. Sure would be nice to see a solution!

  9. Jerry Pennington says:

2018 F150, Same issue, approx 1 year ago, I described the issue to local for dealer, They drove it and said they did not notice a problem. Problem has persisted I currently have the vehicle at a different vehicle dealer which is the dealer where I purchased the vehicle in Oak Ridge Tennessee. They have had the vehicle for over two weeks said that they are waiting on a gear and will replace the gear no mention of any issues or history with other trucks.
I just found this article after doing my own research on the problem and now I’m saying this is a major problem for a lot of F1 50 models 2015 to 2018. Does anyone have any advice what I need to tell my dealer that is currently working on my truck and has had my truck for over two weeks?
