ford steering wheelA class action lawsuit claims that Ford F-150 trucks, model years 2015 to 2019, have defective steering systems which causes the wheel to pull to the left or the right, leaving the driver to temporarily lose control.

The Ford F-150 class action lawsuit was filed by Mark Lincoln who says that he noticed the steering problem upon purchasing a 2016 vehicle, and was told that he could bring it back for an alignment which would fix the problem.

Allegedly, Lincoln bought his vehicle back for an alignment on July 9, 2018, but that did not fix the problem. Additionally, he says that he had his tires rebalanced, but that did not solve the problem.

The Ford steering alignment class action goes on to state that after he experienced multiple problems with his 2016 Ford F-150, including “erratic steering and pulling,” Lincoln traded his 2016 vehicle in and purchased a 2017 Ford F-150 vehicle.

He says that he had to pay a $5,000 adjustment for the 2017  vehicle, which had around 27,188 miles on the odometer on the date of purchase.

The Ford F-150 class action lawsuit claims that when Lincoln purchased the 2017 vehicle, he reviewed the sticker that was placed on the window of the vehicle advertising the vehicle’s features, including equipment, warranty, and crash test ratings.

Allegedly, Lincoln relied on the advertisements on the sticker to make his purchasing decision, noting that the sticker did not disclose that the vehicle suffered from any defects.

According to Lincoln, when he drove the vehicle home, he noticed that it pulled and drifted in both directions. He says that Ford would do a re-alignment free of charge, but that the alignment did not correct the erratic steering.

In the fall, Lincoln complained again about the erratic steering, at which point Ford adjusted the alignment and steering gear assembly, and replaced the shaft seal. However, the problem allegedly persisted.

Lincoln claims that he brought both trucks in for service on multiple occasions but Ford failed to fix the problem. He says that he has faced financial injury trying to fix the problem, including incurring costs related to purchasing his new vehicle, and including lost wages because he had to miss work to try to deal with the vehicle problems.

He says that he and many other customers experienced the steering defect, and were financially injured because of it. Lincoln seeks damages on behalf of himself and all other similarly affected customers.

Have a 2016 F150 FX4 super crew that drifts left and right on interstate you have to constantly fight it. Very dangerous and major without to drive over the road like do for work. Also steering gets very stiff at interstate speeds like there is no power steering. But that goes away when you get back to city speeds. I hate driving it due to how hard it is drive and safety factor. But I cover 5 states for work and that’s my only vehicle. Bought it last summer from Ford dealer as certified pre owned and only has 45,500 miles on it now. So warranty is gone. Too bad I didn’t get to travel in it sooner to find this but pandemic company wouldn’t let us travel. So out of warranty and appears stuck with it.

my 2016 f 150 sport 4×4 steering seems to lock up to the point you have to almost jerk on the wheel to turn it makes for a jerky ride. my wife hates to drive it because it feels unsafe.

Have a 2019 F-150 STX. I noticed the truck pulling to the left constantly. I took the truck in for a front end alignment. I found this to be odd because I have never taken it off road. Dealer charged me for alignment and problem wasn’t fixed. Took it back to the dealer and service manager went for a ride with me. Truck pulled to left. The service manager had me shake the steering wheel to resent the steering spindle? He stated his F-150 does the same thing. So now what?

2016 FX4 XLT. Just started doing this from Time to time, started April 17, 2021. Drifting, steering is stiff while driving, like the wheel locks in certain places. Very dangerous.

I purchased a 2015 F-150 Supercab in October 2019 that currently has 79k miles on it. After I purchased it I noticed that the steering was very loose and when I would take a right turn and come back to center it would continue to “pull” and continue to turn to the left for a bit before centering again. This also happens out of the blue on the highway it will try to go primarily to the left and then after awhile center and not pull in either direction. It happens very sporadically and cannot be centered it then drives perfectly true down the road for a bit before doing it again. I took it in to the dealership since I had purchased a full premium warranty. They blamed it on the wear in my tires (which were almost new when I purchased the vehicle) but also replaced one tie rod. They told me it should help but it has not and it still is very loose and pulls without warning.

I have a 2017 F-150, purchased new in June 2017. When it was only a couple of weeks old, the steering suddenly got very stiff and jerky, i managed to drive it a few mile home, and it seems once I cut it off and re-started it, it fixed itself! took it back to the dealer, they couldn’t find any codes or anything wrong. its done the same thing several more times, now has 51,000 miles. I haven’t had it back to the dealer because there was nothing to show them. it only does it for a very short time each time. But more recently, it has begun to pull lightly in either direction, first left, then right, etc. so I’m about to take it back and have them test drive it. Of course, they’ll want to sell me tires, alignment, etc. rather than admit there’s a problem with the truck…

I have that same problems as everyone else is talking about and then some more with my 2015 f-150 lariat fx4 with 78k miles. At first I thought it was just the ruts in the road that it was pulling in and out off but then got on some freshly paved road and then it was just more noticeable that something was off. Got an alignment didnt fix it when back to the shop and said it’s still not fixed so they did it again and showed me this time anything was off and all parts are with steering where good. So I called the dealer and had them do a recall search with the vin# and come to find out there was 16 different recalls with the 2015 f-150 witch some included steering  problems. Weird part was that my particular truck model had 6 recalls for it but none for the steering problems. Well the 2015 to 2019 f-150s run the same rack a pinion steering with the electric power steering assist. So what makes the certain f-150s so special? It definitely seems to be a poorly engineered steering system that definitely needs to be addressed before it kills someone! I have read some pretty bad horror stories about people’s steering suddenly locking up going 70mph down the highway with no steering. It’s a matter of time befor its someone’s life! Ford please dont leave this to the way side. Fix the problem, recall all f-150s with this steering system  and fix it dont just put another defective steering component in and send them on there way.

Just got 2016 XLT Crew Cab Sport, 48000 Miles. New tires, New tie rods and control arms. After three (3) alligments at different places same issue here. Steering is floppy and just doesn’t feel right.

  9. Don McMenemy says:

Yes i have this problem too. 2019 with 16,000 miles. Truck seems to want to float left or right when on the interstate-no wind. Really noticed it when pulling newly purchased RV at 55 mph- very dangerous

  10. Brian Rhatigan says:

I have a 2015 F150. A couple of weeks ago my steering started binding. With out warning it feels like the power steering goes out. I feel that the truck is unsafe. I am not sure what to do at this point. It looks like Ford is not going to fix it.
