ford steering wheelA class action lawsuit claims that Ford F-150 trucks, model years 2015 to 2019, have defective steering systems which causes the wheel to pull to the left or the right, leaving the driver to temporarily lose control.

The Ford F-150 class action lawsuit was filed by Mark Lincoln who says that he noticed the steering problem upon purchasing a 2016 vehicle, and was told that he could bring it back for an alignment which would fix the problem.

Allegedly, Lincoln bought his vehicle back for an alignment on July 9, 2018, but that did not fix the problem. Additionally, he says that he had his tires rebalanced, but that did not solve the problem.

The Ford steering alignment class action goes on to state that after he experienced multiple problems with his 2016 Ford F-150, including “erratic steering and pulling,” Lincoln traded his 2016 vehicle in and purchased a 2017 Ford F-150 vehicle.

He says that he had to pay a $5,000 adjustment for the 2017  vehicle, which had around 27,188 miles on the odometer on the date of purchase.

The Ford F-150 class action lawsuit claims that when Lincoln purchased the 2017 vehicle, he reviewed the sticker that was placed on the window of the vehicle advertising the vehicle’s features, including equipment, warranty, and crash test ratings.

Allegedly, Lincoln relied on the advertisements on the sticker to make his purchasing decision, noting that the sticker did not disclose that the vehicle suffered from any defects.

According to Lincoln, when he drove the vehicle home, he noticed that it pulled and drifted in both directions. He says that Ford would do a re-alignment free of charge, but that the alignment did not correct the erratic steering.

In the fall, Lincoln complained again about the erratic steering, at which point Ford adjusted the alignment and steering gear assembly, and replaced the shaft seal. However, the problem allegedly persisted.

Lincoln claims that he brought both trucks in for service on multiple occasions but Ford failed to fix the problem. He says that he has faced financial injury trying to fix the problem, including incurring costs related to purchasing his new vehicle, and including lost wages because he had to miss work to try to deal with the vehicle problems.

He says that he and many other customers experienced the steering defect, and were financially injured because of it. Lincoln seeks damages on behalf of himself and all other similarly affected customers.

Have a 2016 Platinum F150 4×4. Same thing, the steering becomes very erratic and you can physically feel the steering malfunctioning. I’ve had It to a private shop and the dealer. Both said it’s the electronic steering assist that’s having problems. They reset the sensors and that helped for a bit now it’s back. Obviously a faulty part(the rack) that Ford is aware of but they will do nothing to help the problem.

I just had this problem in my 2012 ford F 150 and the dealership is charging me for it instead of fixing it. life was nearly lost in the accident and my truck was totaled. I can’t believe that they would let this problem continue.

Ford F-150 Platinum. problem just started a week ago. Pulls to the right or left. in particular on curves, but will also pull on straight road. Have not got it diagnosed yet. Local dealer is not known to be very reliable on repairs?????

I have a 2019 f-150 that while driving will just suddenly start to go left and is hard to turn back right. Sometimes while going down a straight flat road it wanders constantly right and left. I am always correcting to go straight. I have had it back to the dealership service twice and they tell me there is nothing wrong with it. I have owned over 20 four wheel drive trucks in my 46 years of driving and never had a truck drive like this one. My truck only has 7,000 miles on it. I don’t know where to go from here. I don’t feel the truck is safe to drive but I don’t have a choice.

I to have the dreaded steering rack failure on my 2017 F150 4×4. Mine happened all at once on the interstate. Thankfully I have an extended warranty and they are replacing the steering gear.

2015 F150 XLT. Steering sticks when turning left. Wheel will not return to straight ahead.

  9. Aja Brant says:

I’m starting to have an issue with my 2015 F150. When I turn right or even a sharp enough curve, it won’t go back to center and gets stuck around the 1 o’clock position. I have to jerk it left to get it to straighten which causes me to overcottect and go too far left. Seems to also randomly pull to the right, even after getting an alignment.

  10. David Moye says:

I have experienced the exact same problem with my 2015 F150. After diagnosis by a local mechanic. It started steering to the left and right to the point I had no control. Luckily I was close to home and was able to drive 8 mph to get it home. I had to tow the vehicle to the mechanic shop. It was a failure of the electronic steering module “the rack”. it was diagnosed 11/12/2020. The part is being replaced and programmed this week.
