ford steering wheelA class action lawsuit claims that Ford F-150 trucks, model years 2015 to 2019, have defective steering systems which causes the wheel to pull to the left or the right, leaving the driver to temporarily lose control.

The Ford F-150 class action lawsuit was filed by Mark Lincoln who says that he noticed the steering problem upon purchasing a 2016 vehicle, and was told that he could bring it back for an alignment which would fix the problem.

Allegedly, Lincoln bought his vehicle back for an alignment on July 9, 2018, but that did not fix the problem. Additionally, he says that he had his tires rebalanced, but that did not solve the problem.

The Ford steering alignment class action goes on to state that after he experienced multiple problems with his 2016 Ford F-150, including “erratic steering and pulling,” Lincoln traded his 2016 vehicle in and purchased a 2017 Ford F-150 vehicle.

He says that he had to pay a $5,000 adjustment for the 2017  vehicle, which had around 27,188 miles on the odometer on the date of purchase.

The Ford F-150 class action lawsuit claims that when Lincoln purchased the 2017 vehicle, he reviewed the sticker that was placed on the window of the vehicle advertising the vehicle’s features, including equipment, warranty, and crash test ratings.

Allegedly, Lincoln relied on the advertisements on the sticker to make his purchasing decision, noting that the sticker did not disclose that the vehicle suffered from any defects.

According to Lincoln, when he drove the vehicle home, he noticed that it pulled and drifted in both directions. He says that Ford would do a re-alignment free of charge, but that the alignment did not correct the erratic steering.

In the fall, Lincoln complained again about the erratic steering, at which point Ford adjusted the alignment and steering gear assembly, and replaced the shaft seal. However, the problem allegedly persisted.

Lincoln claims that he brought both trucks in for service on multiple occasions but Ford failed to fix the problem. He says that he has faced financial injury trying to fix the problem, including incurring costs related to purchasing his new vehicle, and including lost wages because he had to miss work to try to deal with the vehicle problems.

He says that he and many other customers experienced the steering defect, and were financially injured because of it. Lincoln seeks damages on behalf of himself and all other similarly affected customers.

I purchased a2018 ford Raptor. I got the extra warranty and my steering pulls violently to the left and right. It’s even more excessive in 4×4. I took it to Ford and they told me my steering rack is faulty but they won’t warranty it. This vehicle is not safe to drive with these faulty steering racks on them

  2. Dallin Calaway says:

    I just purchased a 2018 F150 super crew lariat 4×4 6.5’ bed with 37k miles

Noticed some drifting either way when test driving, but thought it due to work tires and needing an alignment.

New tires, aligned, and still the same thing.

Had it at Corwin Ford in Pasco, WA for a week. After the service manager rode with me and immediately noticed it, the shop couldn’t identify it, thus nothing was done…

Yesterday on a couple hour drive on freeway, I suddenly had the vehicle begin a subtle roll as if I was very rapidly moving the wheel side to side. I believe mine has a slight bit of play and am constantly going side to side within my lane.

I have not spent a great deal yet on this. I refuse to and would like to lend my voice to this.

I have a 2016 Ford F150 4 x 4 crew cab with a 5.0 L engine. My electronica steering gear assembly has completely failed. I have noticed that they recalled several hundred thousand vehicles for the same problem in 2008 to 2010 and even though the part is still the same they are not providing assistance yet or recalling the ones they have put on since then including my truck. I’m good for a lawsuit, count me in. Unfortunately I’m about to have to pay $2000 to have this fixed so I can drive my truck

I love it that the Ford dealer act like you don’t know, what your talking about. They told me that they have never heard about this problem. It is. Scary to drive this truck and the dam radio don’t work either. I have taken my Ford to three dealer, and the only thing they have to say is that it I may need a front end alignment. It makes you not wanting to buy a Ford.

  5. Carl Dourambeis says:

My 2017 Ford F-150 XLT 5 liter with 163 inch wheelbase, 4×4, with 36000 miles had a power steering failure. The electronic rack and pinion needs to be changed. The dealer wants 2200 dollars and 4 hours labour to change it. Financial hardship. Ford told me the will not assist. The warranty expired in May 2020. The steering assist failure means the car is undriveable.

The replacement part is not the same as the original. The dealer told me it is ‘an improved part’. Please add me to the lawsuit. I am willing to testify if required.

  6. Michael LAUCK says:

2015 same problem but mine is mostly to right. Have had it aligned but made no improvement

  7. Matt Ritter says:

I have the exact same issue on my 2016 F150 Platinum. It’s been in for multiple alignments. Neighborhood mechanic noticed uneven wear on my new tires after 1 month on the truck.

  8. Neil Broussard says:

I too have a Ford F150, 2017 it’s doing the same thing. it will pull to the right or left with no warning, and my dealer can not even look at the problem because they are too busy. it did that in a curve the other day it will scare the crap out of you. We need to know what to do about this problem.

  9. Gary Bergeron says:

2017 Explorer with only 29K miles. Steering sticks when turning right at about 40mph. I have to pull it back to center or I’ll go off the road. Dealership tech told me it was a common problem but since my warranty is out the only fix is to pay 2K for a new steering system.

  10. Charles Weldon says:

I bought a 2016 a few months ago and the steering wonders on the road constantly. You steadily have to fight it to maintain a lane. Times it gets scary depending on driving situation, traffic and bridges etc. never have I seen or driven a vehicle that you have to constantly fight. My truck in my office and I travel 5 states in it as a sales rep. Really has me concerned also and specially after all the complaints on this issue I have found online.
