chrysler pacifica vehicle with infotainment systemA class action lawsuit has been filed against FCA US LLC (Chrysler) by customers who claim that the “infotainment system” installed in their Chrysler Pacifica is defective.

Plaintiffs Corey Gerritsen and Sara Elice say the infotainment system in their Chrysler Pacifica malfunctions, causing the rear backup camera, the navigation system and Bluetooth connectivity to fail.

The Chrysler class action lawsuit states that the infotainment system merges information and entertainment delivery in cars via audio/video interfaces, touchscreens, and keypads.

“Infotainment systems serve as a gateway between the user and the safety of the vehicle including navigation, communication, and entertainment systems,” the Chrysler Pacifica class action lawsuit alleges.

The plaintiffs allege that they purchased their 2018 Chrysler Pacifica in March 2018 in part based on the representations by Chrysler about the infotainment system in the automobile.

The Chrysler Pacifica owners state that none of the representations made by the defendants included any disclosure about a defect in the infotainment system.

“Had Defendants disclosed that the infotainment system in the Vehicle was defective preventing the full use of the Vehicle and infotainment system, as wells as posing safety risks, Plaintiffs would not have purchased the Vehicle or would have paid less for the vehicle,” the Chrysler class action lawsuit claims.

The plaintiffs allege that they started experiencing issues with the infotainment system right away. They claim that the rear-view camera would not work while the car was in reverse. In addition, the rear camera would sometimes continue to display when the car was not in reverse.

Also, the Chrysler owners say that the screens in the rear seats are defective as well and do not work as represented by the defendant.

The plaintiffs have reportedly taken the vehicle back to the dealership on numerous occasions. They claim that the dealership updated the software and changed out some of the parts in the infotainment system. In spite of those fixes, the plaintiffs say the infotainment system continues to cause problems.

“Plaintiffs have suffered an ascertainable loss as a result of Defendants’ wrongful conduct associated with the infotainment system including, but not limited to, overpayment and diminished value of the Vehicle,” the Chrysler class action lawsuit claims.

The Chrysler Pacifica class action lawsuit points to numerous online complaints that have been posted on multiple websites related to issues with the infotainment systems in the Chrysler Pacifica.

Gerritsen and Elice allege that Chrysler was aware of the defect in the infotainment system before the vehicle was purchased by them.

The plaintiffs claim that it is “standard practice” for vehicle manufacturers to engage in testing before the launch of the vehicle. Gerritsen and Elice state that the “defendant is no exception” and tested the vehicles, including the infotainment systems.

“Given the immediacy and frequency of complaints, Defendant knew or should have known about the defect prior to selling or leasing the defective Vehicles,” the Chrysler action lawsuit claims.

The plaintiffs claim Chrysler is in breach of warranty, violated the California Consumer Legal Remedies Act, and engaged in unfair business practices.

Potential Class Members include: “All persons or entities who purchased or leased a Chrysler Pacifica or 300 for the model years 2017-2019.”

2019 Pacifica – purchased new – radio replaced 3 times – twice under warranty – and last week out of my pocket for $2300!

I have a 2022 Pacifica with a lot of issues with the infotainment system. I’ve had it in the shop several times when it was still under warranty. Every time I was told the same thing. “There’s an update coming to fix that”. Last year Ingot a recall notice to bring in my car for a software update. It didn’t help. I still get blank screens, dropped Bluetooth connections, backup camera sometimes not working. But now, in top of that, I keep getting messages about a power surge in the USB port and please disconnect the cable. That happens even when nothing is connected to the USB ports. If I touch the screen then that arming clears. Both batteries went dead at the same time and I had to replace them, and now my alternator seems to be acting up. I’m seriously wondering if it doesn’t have something to do with the infotainment system errors?
