UPDATE 2 March 3, 2021: According to the settlement website, the claim deadline for current owners and current lessees has been extended to May 3, 2021. Please note that claims will not be paid until the new claim deadline passed. Top Class Actions will continue to provide updates as we learn more.

Fiat Chrysler has agreed to pay more than $300 million to resolve class action claims that the company cheated emissions regulations.

Settlement Class Members include owners, former owners, lessees or former lessees of 2014-2016 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel or 2014-2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee EcoDiesel vehicles.

In January 2017, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and California Air Resources Board (CARB) reportedly issued notices to Fiat Chrysler over alleged violations of regulations related to emissions cheating software.

This prompted a class action lawsuit against the automotive company, with the plaintiffs claiming consumers paid for vehicles that emitted more than 20 times the legal limit of emissions.

Fiat Chrysler attempted to dismiss have the class action lawsuit dismissed in December 2017, claiming consumers did not suffer from a diminution in vehicle value.

However, the federal court decided in March 2018 the plaintiffs still had enough information to bring claims against the company and denied Fiat Chrysler’s motion to dismiss.

After the litigation, Fiat Chrysler agreed to settle the class action lawsuit.

In January 2019, the same federal judge overseeing the consolidated class action said the proposed settlement was nearing preliminary approval, with only a few changes left to be made.

Owners may be able to collect $3,075 for their vehicle if it’s not claimed by another Class Member and $2,460 if their vehicle is claimed by another Class Member. Lessees are eligible to collect $990.

More detailed information about the settlement Class Member criteria is available on the settlement website. Class Members need to file their claim by Aug. 1, 2019.

The estimated cash value of the settlement is $307,460,800. In additional to cash payments, Fiat Chrysler has agreed to update the emissions control software for free and provide an extended warranty on updated vehicles.

The final approval hearing is scheduled for May 3, 2019. The exclusion and objection deadline is April 15, 2019.

I filed my claim at the beginning of this year they told me everything was correct and it could take up to 90 days for my payment for 90 days past and I called to check on it and now they’re telling me I’m not eligible because I was supposed to purchase the vehicle before a certain date does anyone know if this is correct or not

Yeah I Have a 2015 eco diesel ram and I got the update and now I have electronic throttle control light come on, on the freeway, lost acceleration to the truck, luckily not a lot of cars on the road. I was able to get to a dealer(slowly). From what I read this seems to be a real frequent problem and should be covered under a lemon law, I mean if they just want to swap me into a 2020 of my same trim level I would be ok with that.

  9. Jeanette Dobrunz says:

I have a 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited that is having idling/no power issues after water pump replaced and timing belt. Is it similar to the problems everyone else is having? Sounds like an air control issue but no code comes up when read?
