Manufacturers have agreed to pay $3.5 million to resolve claims that they fixed the prices of customized silicone wristbands and pin buttons.

The settlement benefits individuals who purchased customized silicone wristbands or customized pin buttons from Netbrands, Gennex, Custom Wristbands, and/or Zaappaaz during dates between June 1, 2014 and June 23, 2020. Exact dates vary depending on the brand, see the “Who’s Eligible” section below for more information.

Plaintiffs filed their class action lawsuit in August 2017, alleging that Netbrands, Gennex, Custom Wristbands, and Zaappaaz unlawfully conspired together to fix the prices of customized silicone wristbands and pin buttons. According to the class action lawsuit, the companies implemented their scheme between June 2014 and June 2016 – forcing customers to pay higher prices.

The customized silicone wristbands class action referenced a federal investigation which reportedly resulted in guilty verdicts from Zaappaaz, Custom Wristbands, and several of their executives. Zaappaaz reportedly agreed to pay nearly $2 million in fines while Custom Wristbands agreed to pay more than $400,000.

Although these payments compensated the government for reported violations of antitrust laws, plaintiffs in the class action lawsuit said that consumers also deserve to be compensated by the companies for their alleged misdeeds.

The manufacturers have not admitted any wrongdoing but have agreed to resolve the claims against them by paying $3.5 million. Custom Wristbands has agreed to pay $290,000, Gennex will pay $140,000, Netbrands will pay $2.5 million, and Zaappaaz will pay $625,000.

Under the terms of the customized silicone wristbands settlement, Class Members can collect cash payments. Exact settlement payments will vary depending on how many products a claimant purchased. Other factors, such as the number of claims filed and the amount deducted in fees, will also affect payment amounts.

In order to benefit from the customized silicone wristbands class action settlement, Class Members must file a valid claim form by Dec. 13, 2020. Claims require receipts or other documentation establishing date of purchase, type of product purchased, quantity purchased, and total amount paid. Failure to include this proof of purchase will result in a rejected claim.

The deadline for exclusion and objection is Sept. 23, 2020. The final approval hearing for the customized silicone wristbands settlement is scheduled for Oct. 14, 2020.
