Those affected by earthquakes in the Prague, Okla. area that occurred between Nov. 5, 2011 and Nov. 16, 2018, may be able to take part in a $925,000 class action settlement.
Residents of Prague alleged in a class action lawsuit that three oil companies caused the Oklahoma earthquakes that led to property damage within a 15 mile radius of the city.
The plaintiffs claimed that the companies had initiated quakes that measured 5.0 on the Richter scale as a part of operating wastewater disposal wells.
The three oil companies, Spess Oil Company, Equal Energy US, Inc. and Fairfield Oil and Gas Corp, have agreed to pay nearly $1 million to end the class action allegations; however, they have not admitted any liability in causing the Oklahoma earthquakes.
The settlement provides Class Members reimbursement for damages suffered during the quakes that allegedly occurred in November 2011 up until Nov. 16 of this year.
Residents who may be Class Members eligible to make a claim in the Oklahoma earthquakes class action settlement include those in the Lincoln, Payne, Logan, Oklahoma, Cleveland, Pottawatomie, Seminole, Okfuskee, and Creek counties.
Claims must be submitted by April 29, 2019 to be valid. Class members who wish to exclude themselves must do so by Dec. 31, 2018. Class Members who wish to object must file by Jan. 8, 2019.
The final hearing will be held in the Cleveland County District Court on Jan. 18, 2019.
Who’s Eligible
Class Members include those “who own or owned commercial or residential real property in any or some combination of Lincoln, Payne, Logan, Oklahoma, Cleveland, Pottawatomie, Seminole, Okfuskee, and/or Creek counties in Oklahoma or have or had a property interest therein between November 5, 2011 and November 16, 2018, and which suffered earthquake damages from earthquakes with epicenters within 15 miles of Prague, Oklahoma, including but not limited to, those occurring between November 5, 2011 and November 8, 2011.”

Varies depending on the amount of damages suffered.

I’m curious as to how the area was decided or how many miles from the epicenter that would be considered in this Class Action? We felt strong earthquakes in theTulsa area as well & the next thing you know I had water leaking in my concrete slab of my home. I know not as bad of a problem as others that were closer & I feel terrible for them, but was not a fun thing to deal with either. My deductible was very high so everything was out of pocket for me to fix. I dont think its just a coincidence that I had a water slab leak after an earthquake, & the earthquakes were happening after all of the drilling. Anyway I can do without ever feeling another one, they’re scary if you’re not used to them!
If you guys take this lowball settlement and give up your rights to file future suits in doing such, you will likely regret it. Settlement should be about 50mil. Not 956k. Dont let the oil titans pull a fast one

My mother lives near Quail Spring Mall and a Quake took place about 2016-2017 and it did damage to her condo that she is renting. They had to come in a shift the bldg. it cracked the foundation and ruined AC units and had water dripping down the walls for months before the owner filed a claim. However, my mother lost most of her things in her storage unit and has had sever breathing problems. She has tried to file a claim many times and spoke to the owner but she still has not been compensated for anything.
I watched a documentary and it was proven that earth quakes of that magnitude were not normal and directly caused by the oil company drilling and pumping toxic water back into the earth nearby. There has been a documented rise in sysmic activity/strength in the areas near and around the drilling sights since the companies started drilling. The poor people affected didn’t see it comming thier homes and properties were badly damaged and they have no way of paying for repairs. I encourage you to watch the documentary.
You cannot blame them for the earthquakes. No one knows why earthquakes happens.

John: That may be true sometimes, for some earthquakes. But there is virtually 100% certainty about the cause of others.
Unfortunately, the Prague area (and certain other places in Oklahoma) has had quakes that fall into the latter category.
I grew up in Oklahoma during the 1940s and ’50s, when these things were almost unheard-of; so there’s no need for anyone to make any snide remarks about my being a resident of earthquake-prone California, okay?
