Whitepages.com has reached a class action lawsuit settlement with residents of Illinois and Ohio whose profiles were allegedly used to advertise the website.

Class members are Illinois and Ohio residents whose name was searched on Whitepages.com by someone who purchased a subscription to Whitepages.com between May 7, 2019, and Jan. 27, 2022.

The Whitepages.com class action settlement ends claims from Ohio and Illinois residents who assert the site violated both Illinois and Ohio law with its advertising techniques.

Allegedly, the company violated the Illinois Right of Publicity Act and the Ohio Revised Code by using the personal identifying information of residents to advertise subscriptions to its site. Allegedly, the information used to advertise the site included residents’ names, contact information, dates of birth, former residential addresses, possible relatives and possible identifying photographs.

Whitepages.com denies any wrongdoing in the face of the residents’ claims, but has agreed to settle the settlement in order to avoid the continued costs and risks of litigation.

A $1,208,400 settlement fund has been created to compensate the Illinois residents, and a $2,864,200 settlement fund has been created to compensate Ohio residents.

Illinois class members are expected to be eligible to receive between $125 and $245 from the settlement fund.

Ohio class members are expected to be eligible to receive between $315 and $630.

In the case of both the Illinois and Ohio residents, payment amounts could be more or less than the estimated ranges.

The deadline to ask to be excluded from the settlement or to object to the settlement terms is Aug. 24, 2022.

Class members are invited to attend a final fairness hearing in the Ohio and Illinois Whitepages.com class action lawsuit settlement scheduled for Sept. 28, 2022.

The deadline to file a claim is Aug. 24, 2022.

I received a letter in the mail that i am an eligible member. I am in Ohio. On the website it says in Ohio it provides for compensation up to $10,000 but when I filed the claim it says around $200-$600 but they made me file a w4 so is there any idea how much I might be entitled to?
