Great Value Cornstarch

Karlin Foods has agreed to settle a class action lawsuit over allegations that the cornstarch manufacturer falsely advertised its “sold exclusively at Walmart” product as “all natural.” If you purchased Great Value All Natural Cornstarch since Aug. 22, 2010, you may be eligible for benefits from the class action settlement.

The Karlin class action lawsuit filed by lead plaintiff Amber Teufel alleged that the cornstarch was not “all natural” as the label claimed but rather contained ingredients that were genetically modified organisms (GMOs).

Walmart started selling Karlin cornstarch under its Great Value store brand beginning in 2010. Although neither Walmart or Karlin Foods will admit to any wrongdoing by labeling the product as “all natural,” manufacturer Karlin has agreed to a $825,000 settlement which will be used to pay valid claims submitted by Class Members.

Under the cornstarch settlement agreement, Karlin has also agreed to remove the phrase “all natural” from the product label.
