The University of New Haven has agreed to a $1 million settlement to resolve claims that it failed to refund students for COVID-19 closures.

The settlement benefits University of New Haven students who were enrolled in a UNH course as of March 224, 2020.

According to plaintiffs in the class action lawsuit, the University of New Haven failed to compensate them for closures related to COVID-19. The students argue that they were denied the full benefits of their in-person tuition payments when classes moved online.

The University of New Haven is a private university between New York City and Boston. 

The University of New Haven hasn’t admitted any wrongdoing but agreed to a $1 million class action lawsuit settlement to resolve the claims.

Under the terms of the settlement, class members can receive an equal share of the net settlement fund. Exact payment amounts will vary depending on the number of participating class members and any deductions made from the settlement fund.

The deadline for exclusion and objection is Aug. 26, 2023.

The final approval hearing for the University of New Haven settlement is scheduled for Oct. 3, 2023.

No claim form is required to benefit from the settlement. Class members who do not exclude themselves will automatically receive payment. Class members can choose to receive their benefits as an electronic payment instead of a check by submitting an election form on the settlement website.
