Point Park University agreed to a $1.25 million class action lawsuit settlement to resolve claims that it overcharged students for tuition during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The settlement benefits Point Park University students who were enrolled in on-campus classes after March 12, 2020, and who were assessed tuition and fees for the spring 2020 semester.

According to the class action lawsuit, Point Park University overcharged students for tuition during the spring 2020 semester when classes were unexpectedly moved online due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Students in the case argue that they did not get the full value of their in-person tuition fees because they did not have access to campus resources.

Point Park University is a private school in Pittsburgh that offers both undergraduate and graduate degrees.

Point Park hasn’t admitted any wrongdoing but agreed to a $1.25 million settlement to resolve the tuition class action lawsuit.

Under the terms of the settlement, class members can receive a proportional share of the net settlement fund based on the amount they paid the university in tuition and fees for the spring 2020 semester. No payment estimates are available at this time.

The deadline for exclusion and objection is Oct. 23, 2023.

The final approval hearing for the class action lawsuit settlement is scheduled for Dec. 4, 2023.

No claim form is required to benefit from the settlement. Class members who do not exclude themselves will automatically receive a settlement payment. Class members who wish to update their address or opt into receiving an electronic payment may do so by submitting an information form on the settlement website.
