Washington residents who got charged a tenant screening fee or holding fee by FPI Management may be eligible to receive a payment as a result of a $1.6 million class action settlement.

Settlement Class Members are Washington state residents who sent in a rental application to FPI Management between April 16, 2016, and Oct. 13, 2021, and paid a tenant screening fee through FPI to the owner of the property, paid a holding deposit through FPI to the property owner, or had a credit report pulled by FPI or another entity acting on its behalf.

Plaintiffs allege Washington law requires FPI Management to provide a disclosure to prospective tenants before charging screening fees, and FPI Managementโ€™s failure to do so constituted a violation of state law. Further, the plaintiffs claim they were charged a holding fee before being offered the dwelling units.

FPI Management denies the allegations against it. It claims it strictly followed all state and federal laws. The plaintiffsโ€™ allegations, the company says, are not based on law or fact.ย

While FPI Management denies any wrongdoing, it has agreed to resolve the pending litigation by agreeing to a settlement with the plaintiffs.

This class action settlement involves Washington specifically, but FPI Management operates in more than a dozen states, according to the companyโ€™s website.ย

Class Members will receive their fair share of the $1.6 million settlement fund, but the exact amount of each personโ€™s payment isnโ€™t finalized yet. The amount will be determined after all lawsuit costs and fees are paid and the settlement administrator determines how many Class Members there are.

Class Members who do not want to remain a part of this lawsuit do have the right to exclude themselves by Dec. 27, 2021. By opting out, Class Members will retain the right to seek out an individual claim against the Defendant regarding this matter.ย

Class Members who want to remain in the lawsuit but disagree with the Settlement must file an objection with the court by Dec. 27, 2021.

A final fairness hearing in the FPI Management fees settlement will take place Feb. 3, 2022.

There is no claim form in this class action settlement. Class Members who donโ€™t act will automatically receive a payment.
