FloridaCentral Credit Union agreed to a class action lawsuit settlement to resolve claims that it failed to prevent a 2024 data breach.
The FloridaCentral Credit Union settlement benefits individuals whose private information was potentially compromised in the FloridaCentral data breach on May 16, 2024.
Plaintiffs in the class action lawsuit claim that FloridaCentral failed to protect their information from a data breach affecting its email system. The breach allegedly compromised sensitive information such as Social Security numbers and account data.
FloridaCentral Credit Union is a financial institution in Florida with over 200,000 members.
FloridaCentral admitted no wrongdoing but agreed to pay an undisclosed sum to resolve the data breach class action lawsuit.
Under the terms of the FloridaCentral Credit Union settlement, class members can receive either a flat payment or a larger payment for documented losses.
Flat payments are estimated to be $100 per class member. Larger payments of up to $5,000 are available for documented losses such as fraudulent charges, identity theft expenses, credit monitoring costs and more.
All class members are eligible for three years of free credit monitoring. This monitoring includes one-bureau credit monitoring, dark web monitoring, identity theft insurance coverage of up to $1 million and fully managed identity recovery services.
The deadline for exclusion and objection is May 16, 2025.
The final approval hearing for the FloridaCentral data breach settlement is scheduled for June 16, 2025.
In order to receive settlement benefits, class members must submit a valid claim form by June 2, 2025.
Who’s Eligible
Individuals whose personal information was potentially compromised as a result of the FloridaCentral Credit Union data breach.
Potential Award
Up to $5,000 for documented losses or a flat payment of $100. Up to 3 years of free credit monitoring inclusive.
Proof of Purchase
Documentation of losses, such as bank statements, credit reports, receipts, police reports, etc.
