UPDATE: The DeVry University Job Opportunities Class Action Settlement was granted final approval on October 8, 2020. Multiple appeals have been filed. Claims will not be paid until all appeals are exhausted. We appreciate your ongoing patience. Top Class Actions will continue to provide updates as we learn more.

DeVry University has agreed to pay nearly $45 million to resolve allegations that they misrepresented job placement claims to prospective students.

The DeVry University jobs class action settlement benefits individuals who purchased or otherwise paid for part of a DeVry or Keller education program between Jan. 1, 2008 and Dec. 15, 2016.

Plaintiffs in the DeVry University class action lawsuit claimed the school fraudulently misrepresented job prospects for their graduates. As a result of these alleged misrepresentations, students were deceived into enrolling in the university and paying more for tuition than they would have if they knew the truth.

Specifically, the plaintiffs took issue with DeVry University jobs claims that 90% of graduates, or graduates of Keller Graduate School of Management were employed in their fields of study within six months of graduation. Additionally, the university allegedly made misleading claims that DeVry University graduates earned 15% more income in one year than graduates of other schools. In 2016, these claims were reportedly revealed to be false.

“Unfortunately, tens of thousands of students and consumers reasonably relied on these claims and enrolled in DeVry, borrowing millions of dollars’ worth of student loans to purchase educational services and products from Defendants at inflated rates, when—had they known the truth behind Defendants’ claims—they would have paid substantially less for their enrollment or wouldn’t have enrolled at all,” the DeVry University jobs class action lawsuit claimed.

DeVry University has not admitted any wrongdoing but has agreed to resolve the claims against them in a $44.95 million settlement.

All Class Members will be eligible to receive cash payments from the settlement based on the number of credits paid for. Payments will vary depending on the number of claims filed and the amount deducted for graduate payments and other costs.

Students who obtained an associate’s or bachelor’s degree from DeVry or a Keller’s master’s degree but did not get a job in their chosen field within six months will get an additional cash payment. Associate’s degree graduates will receive $500, bachelor’s graduates will receive $1,000, and master’s graduates will receive $500.

Other benefits under the DeVry University jobs class action settlement include career counseling for graduates who did not get a job in their chosen field within six months and deletion of negative credit events reported by DeVry University between Jan. 1, 2008 and Dec. 15, 2016.

In order to receive payments from the DeVry University jobs class action settlement, Class Members must file a valid claim form by Sept. 7, 2020. Claims require education information including dates attended, number of credits paid for, graduation information, field of study, and job placement.

Class Members have until Aug. 24, 2020 to exclude themselves or object to the DeVry University class action settlement. The final approval hearing for the settlement is scheduled for Oct. 7, 2020.

I went to Devry to be an Electronic Engineer, started fine , but somehow Devry professors trick me , having me sign over to network admin, it’s not bad , but looking back at how I was scam out of my career, while adding loans to my account without me knowing, I’m a disabled vet, with full scholarship, why the hell do I need loans, everything was paid for, but I now understand why these evil companies do this, they just hate when people come from tiny countries that are way smarter than them, they think they are Gods, but they ain’t nothing but the bottom of the pit toilet.

  5. Melanie Smith says:

I was also wondering how the settlement payment was going to work out as well I sent in the postcard as well that was sent to me. I was at Junior on Dean’s list…lol. When they decided that the 2 semesters before the one I was signing up for classes for…which I got a medical withdrawal after 2 weeks that I would have to pay for the entire semester out of pocket and I couldn’t come back until it was paid in full. CIS tra k in forensics and securities and WOW the student loans

  6. Ashanti Dorsey says:

I’m ok with them wiping all debt out regarding Devry. That experience was a nightmare and not at all worth the money I paid to be scammed.

  7. Elna Hoffman says:

I paid for 12 credits…I sent in a large post card that had been sent to me…will I be reimbursed for the hours I paid?

  8. Ericka Golden Jennings says:

This was such a false claim. I am still paying in student loan and they never ever help me get a job and had no solutions for me as they stated

  9. Meagan says:

What about the people that paid for school to attend DeVry and didn’t graduate becasue they stopped going to school because of the “false terms” DeVry provided?

    1. Joeann Anderson says:

I was wandering the same thing.. Megan..

    2. George Kim says:

I’m in the same boat, I took all the classes and finished my senior class project, then they say I have two classes to take to graduate… which was to take a career class and typing class. What a joke… after they slapped me with a $1400 for the two classes Inever attended… wow
