You could receive a BetterHelp refund through a Federal Trade Commission (FTC) settlement if you paid for services through one of the company’s websites.

The settlement benefits consumers who signed up and paid for services through a BetterHelp website between Aug. 1, 2017, and Dec. 31, 2020. BetterHelp websites include BetterHelp, MyTherapist, Teen Counseling, Faithful Counseling, Pride Counseling, iCounseling, Regain and Terappeuta.

According to the FTC, BetterHelp promised to keep consumer information private yet shared user information with Facebook, Snapchat, Pinterest and Criteo. BetterHelp allegedly shared email addresses, IP addresses and answers to health questions with these companies for advertising purposes.

BetterHelp is an online therapy service.

BetterHelp has not admitted any wrongdoing but agreed to pay $7.8 million to resolve the FTC lawsuit.

Under the terms of the FTC settlement, consumers can receive a BetterHelp refund based on the amount they paid for BetterHelp services. Consumers can choose to receive their payments as PayPal payments, Zelle payments or mailed checks.

There is no exclusion or objection deadline for the FTC settlement.

The settlement was finalized in a final decision order on July 14, 2023.

No action is required to receive a BetterHelp refund, but consumers can select their payment method until June 10, 2024. Consumers who do not take action will automatically receive their refund payment to the email address where they received the FTC settlement notice.

There needs to be a case against Academy Bank. They like to take people’s funds without the customer’s knowledge. I filed a claim in January 2017 within the time allowed to file a claim. Academy Bank deducted $500 twice from an atm withdrawal transaction on January 24, 2017. I asked for proof of the second transaction and they completly ignored my request. Then I was told to ask a different employee from a different department and he would reopen the claim and take care of that for me. Come October what I received was a closed checking account with a negative balance of $67. I went to the main bank and gave the receptionist the story she typed it up and sent it to the manager of the claims department by email. I also talked to several others who said they would do the same and she will get back to me. But that never happened either. Not even sure if they sent her the email. 2022 I filed a claim with the BBB and it was misconstrued. I think she knew exactly what I was talking about. I sent the paperwork by fax 3 or 4 times. I called and left messages probably about 10 times. She never did call back. I had chats with 3 different customer service reps. Never did I get proof of what was needed. She finally called and told me all she had was what I had. If the 2nd transaction withdrawal did happened I wouldn’t get reimbursed because it happened too ago. I was able to get a phone number to the charge-off department and he said I needed to pay my negative balance and he would open my account back up and he would see what he could do. I am not responsible for that negative balance. I didn’t sign up for overdraft charges. He sent me documents that had the proof of the two atm transactions.
