A $920,000 AOCLSC settlement resolves claims the oil manufacturer failed to pay its workers the wages owed to them under California law.
The settlement benefits AOCLSC employees who worked for the company in California in non-exempt hourly positions between May 8, 2019, and May 15, 2023.
The settlement also benefits a Private Attorneys General Act class of AOCLSC employees who worked for the company in California in non-exempt hourly positions between June 1, 2021, and May 15, 2023.
Plaintiffs in the class action lawsuit claim AOCLSC failed to pay hourly, minimum and overtime wages and other forms of compensation. In addition, the company allegedly failed to provide meal periods, rest periods and accurate wage statements as required by California law.
AOCLSC is the parent company of AOCUSA, an oil manufacturing company formerly known as Amalie Oil Company.
AOCLSC hasnโt admitted any wrongdoing but agreed to pay $920,000 to resolve the wage class action lawsuit.
Under the terms of the AOCLSC settlement, class members will receive a cash payment based on the number of workweeks and PAGA pay periods they worked during the applicable class periods. Class members received settlement notices with their workweek calculations as determined by the settlement administrator.
The deadline for exclusion and objection is Oct. 9, 2024, though class members cannot opt out of the PAGA portion of the settlement.
The final approval hearing for the settlement is scheduled for Nov. 8, 2024.
No claim form is required to benefit from the AOCLSC settlement. However, class members have until Sept. 9, 2024, to challenge the number of work weeks allotted to them in their settlement notices.
